We all took Ellie out in the morning. I had booked Marion and I afternoon tea at the Salutation Hotel in Sandwich so we decided to not eat any lunch, wait for the tea.
We walked around the gardens first which are really nice and then as it clouded over, we went in earlier than planned for our tea. I’ll just say that for £30 each, we have both had better! We are used to them bringing us a tiered cake stand with it all on. No, we had to choose from a tray and when finished walk next door to the restaurant and choose cakes which weren’t the delicate fancies we expected. They were, for example, a slice of lemon drizzle cake! We had to ask for more milk and tea and the something to go with the scones, as in jam and cream and a couple of raisins in them would have been good! Not only this but we were seated in the bar on our own, not in the restaurant where everyone else appeared to be and we had a low coffee table which meant we had to eat off our laps! The crockery was very uninspiring too. All I can say is that we did have a giggle about it but I wouldn’t bother going back. They may have Michelin stars but the afternoon tea certainly didn’t have!
In the evening we popped over to see Lou and Rhys.
