It was a really nice sunny day and so Mal decided to have the day off. We went into Broadstairs. We were amazed at the number of new restaurants that have opened since our last visit or maybe we just didn’t notice them. Amongst these were a Greek Taverna and  a Turkish Mezze Bar!  Phileas Foggs is still there and we have eaten there many times and will have to go back for a return visit.

There is a really good butchers in Broadstairs who make amazing pasties. We bought one each and went to sit down by the sea front to eat them. There were quite a few seagulls overhead but I had forgotten just what sea gulls are like. Half way through my pastie, a huge one swooped down and took it right out of my hand! That was it, pastie gone! Well, holiday makers around us couldn’t believe it. I could, I had just forgotten how clever they are. Many times children have their ice creams “taken away”! I won’t be making that mistake again. People who have not experienced gulls at the seaside probably don’t realise just what a pest they can be and they are HUGE …too many pasties I guess. It’s just a shame it all happened so quickly that we didn’t get a photo of it.

It was a really nice day out and of course a break from Mal’s work and free transport courtesy of being old!!

16th – 22nd June is Broadstairs Dickens Festival.

Broadstairs also have an excellent Folk Week,10th -17th August but we won’t be here for that one.
