Sunday 24th August 2025

We drove to Shepherdswell to walk around Knees Wood. Another road closure and diversion, so a trek around all the other village roads. Eventually we arrived at the woods and as we were walking round  , a couple with two dogs stopped to talk to us. The lady dropped her dogs treat and she did this quite near Ellie so the dog attacked Ellie! I couldn’t believe it and then she said “oh he is food protective”. Poor Ellie hadn’t a clue what was going on but it shook her up, thankfully the other dog didn’t draw blood, probably because of Ellie’s thick coat.

We then had a coffee at The Colonel’s Cafe.

In the afternoon we went to the Cattle Market Party in town. All free, well that was how it was advertised. If you wanted a table it was  £25 !! People were quite annoyed by that, it has always been free.

Saturday 23rd August 2025

We decided to change our internet provider as they want to double our payments. We contacted Virgin and managed a good deal. That was the beginning of August. They failed to arrive on the day booked (told us at 4.30 that they weren’t coming) and today messaged to say extra works needed to be carried out and so they will come on 25th SEPTEMBER!!! Terrific service and we haven’t even started yet.

This week, Micky next door to us had requested  a charger fitted to his house to charge his electric work van. FIVE vans arrived and TEN men. Thankfully I wasn’t here for the road being dug up as I was at work. The road/pavement barricades were still up when I arrived home, obviously unfinished. A long story short, they couldn’t do it and had to return to clear up the mess and fill in the holes!!! But while they were here, one of the guys had a Virgin T shirt on (he also worked for Virgin some of the time)  so Mal spoke to him about our new instillation and he said “that will be awkward here”.

What can I say life has become so much more complicated.  Mal spent the entire morning cancelling Virgin…if only they would let you speak to a person. Then back to Sky again who let us have it for half the original price , And yes, we did try negotiating before leaving them!! WHAT??!!

Ellie and I went over the fields.

Then I went to the cemetery to place new flowers for Torin and clear up some of the petals from the rose bushes I planted.

Back home to watch the Spurs game. The best I have seen them play in a long while and we beat Man. City! I am not sure how long it will last but at the moment we are TOP!

Friday 22nd August 2025

We took Ellie to the fields in Minster, had a really nice walk and as we were about to leave, they had blocked and closed the road! As I drove up they had to move everything and then asked if there were many more cars. Erm yes, perhaps they should have checked first and informed people in advance!

A very poor game for Hammers in the evening, in fact Mal turned it off!

Thursday 21st August 2025

We went to the Viking ship cafe for a coffee and a short walk for Ellie. The main reason we went was to return their pager. They leave it on your table to tell you when your food is ready. Mal put it in his pocket and mistakenly came home with it!! It rained a little but we managed to get an under cover seat to drink our coffee.

At the weekend a driver smashed into The Pilot Inn at Dungeness, we visit every time we stay at Romney Marsh. Thankfully it has all been put back together again!

At least it will all be back to normal by the time we get there in September.

Wednesday 20th August 2025

Ellie’s post op X Ray day. We had to leave her at the vets at 8.30. As always we hate it and a loss to know what to do until the surgery phones us. As we were in Eastry, we decided to try the drive from there to Deal . The Deal – Sandwich road is closed for road works and there is a long diversion. Yes, we were guided through villages to get us there and as we hadn’t eaten (because Ellie couldn’t eat!) we decided to go to Spoons – The Norman Wisdom for breakfast.

Crazy all that including refillable coffees for 13 pounds 81p !!

We collected a wobbly Ellie at 1.30 and she slept most of the afternoon.  Now we have to wait for the consultant to return from his holiday to report on the X ray but they think all is OK. We hope so.

Tuesday 19th August 2025

We had a video call with Rhys first thing, he is in Spain with Lou for a few days by Lake Iznajar.

I went to Westwood, to take some clothes back that I bought online.  I hate buying clothes online but often, little choice. When I was in M&S a lady came up to me apologising but asked me where I bought the straight leg white trousers I had on!! I had to tell her I bought them last year as I have had the same problem as she has…..we don’t want the ridiculously huge baggy bottom trousers.

The roads were packed, queues everywhere, all heading for the beach I guess.

Another half a kilo of cherry tomatoes from the garden. So many at the moment!
