We were up at 1.30 am, drove to Lou and Rhys’s and left Ellie there for her holiday. Lou drove us to Gatwick. We were in the middle of storms and lucky to take off on time and then the pilot said he thought we were “within the wind speed “to land in Funchal. Good news that he wasn’t going to drop us off for the night on one of the Canary Islands.

Yes, we landed in Funchal about half hour early.
We were then dropped off at Pestana Royal Hotel. We have stayed here before. They stored our luggage, and said they would phone us when the room was ready, meanwhile go and enjoy lunch! The room was ready by 1pm.
The food is so good. The weather was cloudy but warm and so after dinner we sat outside to sample some of the drinks. The poncha was good BUT they served it in a huge glass. We also had sparkling wine in the restaurant, served of course by the waiters. You had a choice of red, white, roase or sparkling. All very good and ever meal a bottle of water was brought to the table.
A lovely sunset over the sea.
The singer was not particularly good so we sat outside and played cards. It had been a long day!
