We were up at 1.30 am, drove to Lou and Rhys’s and left Ellie there for her holiday. Lou drove us to Gatwick. We were in the middle of storms and lucky to take off on time and then the pilot said he thought we were “within the wind speed “to land in Funchal. Good news that he wasn’t going to drop us off for the night on one of the Canary Islands.

Yes, we landed in Funchal about half hour early.

We were then dropped off at Pestana Royal Hotel. We have stayed here before. They stored our luggage, and said they would phone us when the room was ready, meanwhile go and enjoy lunch! The room was ready by 1pm.
The food is so good. The weather was cloudy but warm and so after dinner we sat outside to sample some of the drinks. The poncha was good BUT they served it in a huge glass. We also had sparkling wine in the restaurant, served of course by the waiters. You had a choice of red, white, roase or sparkling. All very good and ever meal a bottle of water was brought to the table.

A lovely sunset over the sea.

The singer was not particularly good so we sat outside and played cards. It had been a long day!

A little advice to anyone buying Christmas presents online. Use Paypal. I have now waited for 2 parcels from different companies, one we discovered the tracking details were fake and the second who “passed the parcel to Yodel” over a week ago. When we investigated, Yodel don’t have it! We sent all the paperwork to Paypal and they refunded the money immediately. We were very surprised they acted immediately and it was because we sent all the “paperwork”. Excellent!

We took Ellie to Kearsney Abbey but it was the most miserable day, just drizzle and more drizzle. She went in the stream for a paddle.

On the way home I called into Tesco Superstore. My goodness the savings at the moment. My shopping total was £75 and as the cashier said “You have saved £59 today” Wow!! Beef, lamb and salmon stocking up the freezer! All half price.

We watched the Spurs game in the evening, oh dear, they lost!

Tuesday 3rd December 2024

Down to Minnis Bay and Ellie of course had to go in the sea.

From the beach we walked up to ‘Waves’ and met up with Penny & John to talk about Birchington Man Shed. We warmed up with hot chocolate and had a very productive chat.

My new glasses that I collected last Friday are just not working correctly. I have to move them to be able to read properly, will have to go back and get them altered. That is the problem with varifocals.
