Saturday 22nd June 2024

The blackbird in the garden wakes me up at 3.30 but I really don’t care, he is so happy singing away.

We went walking around Wingham woods, calling in at the farm shop on the way back. They have a notice there, that is the last crate of Jazz apples until October. Shame.

We bought a dog guard for the car but Ellie doesn’t like being in the back as she is used to sitting on the back seat. The problem is we now have leather seats and she would slide about on them. A problem no longer, we have bought a “hammock” for the back seat, so we will see how that works. We have fitted it in the car.

When it is hot, this is what Ellie does, face right next to the fan and surrounded by teddies!

Friday 21st June 2024

We walked Ellie over the fields . The footpaths are becoming extremely overgrown. There is a caravan park at the end of the walk. The guy came out and told us there are adders in the field and a dog was bitten, so no more walks over that way!  We no longer keep atropine in the fridge as we did in Cyprus!

I wanted to sit in the garden but the row with them digging outside was awful. In the afternoon the tennis took over! We were watching Draper. Sadly he lost.

Later of course the France game.

Thursday 20th June 2024

We drove to King George VI park in the morning. Ellie’s first trip in the back of the car, she wasn’t very keen as she is used to sitting on the back seats. In this car they are leather so I think she would fall off them.

We noticed as always, the lifeboats patrolling all along the coast.

Virgin are still digging the road up outside and all along our road. The noise is horrendous. It would not be so bad if this wasn’t the third time it has been dug up! It isn’t doing my ear any good at all. We also have to keep moving cars.

More football and what an awful England game. Sloppy and little effort. There have been some good games but not from England!

Wednesday 19th June 2024

Rhys collected us and we went to the garage to pick up the new car.

I got in the drivers seat, turned the ignition, the radio was on and it started playing Rod Stewart’s ‘Maggie May’. Just coincidence? Torin always put this on whenever we visited as soon as we walked through the door. Later this appeared on my Facebook………………..

As Mal says, he is still with me.

The problem once I had the car home was we had to keep moving it where they are digging up the road.

Football has taken over! Mal did go to the allotment to weed, dig some potatoes and pick some salad, raspberries and strawberries.

Croatia and Albania was a very good game!  Albania is one of my teams in the Daniel family sweepstake.

Tuesday 18th June 2024

We walked Ellie and I stopped off at the Health centre and joined the queue outside!

Thank goodness they gave me an appointment for 4pm. Would I mind going back…not at all, same day appointment!

I returned at the correct time and yes I had a bad ear infection with a lot of swelling so he couldn’t even look inside. He gave me a prescription for steroids and antibiotics.

One of my teams (in the Daniel sweepstake) is Portugal, who won in the evening but a fairly boring game unlike the Turkey game earlier.

Monday 17th June 2024

I headed for work and the car warning lights started coming on again. I stopped and they went away and then came back on further down the road. A bit of a joke as I drove it to Faversham and back the previous day, no problem! I wasn’t risking it, so I turned round with the red light still on and went home. I had to ring Jack and apologise I wouldn’t be in work. I also had to cancel my maxillofacial appointment for tomorrow. All being well, my “new to me ” car should be ready on Wednesday then hopefully no more stress.

Today we decided on the car I want and the garage offered a trade in, very little as the car is old and done a lot of miles. The car should be ready on Wednesday. But of course I have to get the car there somehow.

Then the most unlikely thing happened. They are digging up our road to install  super Virgin Media computer stuff, have been for a few days. The guy came again today to ask if I could move the car. Mal joked with him and said “maybe”. They got chatting and he offered the same amount that the garage was offering for part X!! I told him the warning lights came on as  it was being driven, power was being lost etc etc. He just said that he would go and get the cash! He does cars up and had none on the go at the moment.  He brought the cash back, filled in all the forms, we cancelled our insurance…deal done. One less thing to think about.

Next thing, I have had ear ache all weekend and it is getting more painful, so I phoned the medical centre . Yes ages until they answered and then they told me to go round to see the pharmacist. I walked all the way round there and was told the surgery is wrong as ear problems are only dealt with by the pharmacist for 1 – 17 year olds.  I walked back to the surgery and it was…..’ well you  better phone in the morning or go to a walk in centre. Dover, Deal or Canterbury!!’ Oh yeah I am going to all of those, no car and they are not on a bus route.  Or I could ring 111, oh yea when Mal’s GP told him never to call them! Hopeless. What a crazy world we are living in. The final thing they said was “queue in the morning at 8am as you won’t get through on the phone!”

Back home and paracetamol.

We watched the best Euro match so far in the evening. France v Austria.

Sunday 16th June 2024

Father’s Day! Mal opened cards and presents and I went to put some flowers on Torin’s grave, at least we care about him on Father’s Day. Who would know if Scarlet and Jack do?!

We drove up to Lou and Rhys’s where Lou had made a Father’s Day roast which was lovely. After the meal we took the dogs for a walk. The two dads together……….

Yes, instead of a nice background they decided to have the dog bin in the photo!

We then met up with Tris, Violet, Jem and Dom back in Sandwich at The Quayside bar.  Then the four of them came back to our house to watch the England game. Not a very good game!

A busy Father’s day, with me and a dodgy car having to drive to Faversham and back.
