Yesterday was hot, today they say will be even hotter so we took Ellie in the woods and early! Mal planning our route and a very hot Ellie.

I can’t believe they are letting the Golf Open go ahead in Sandwich but have cancelled the Folk and Ale Festival……..CRAZY!!

Later I gave Ellie a cool shower which she loved.

We watched some football and in the evening the storm started. It was lovely watching the lightning over the sea.

We went off to Herstmonceux Castle and Gardens. Needless to say the castle was shut but we had a lot of time around all the gardens and the woods. We tried to stay in the shade a lot of the time, for Ellie’s sake and gave her plenty of water.

I have to say we really weren’t impressed with the gardens. We were even told as we entered that the rose garden was beautiful. Quite honestly my roses are more impressive! A lot of them at Herstmonceux didn’t even have any perfume.

It was very hot and humid and we were exhausted by the time we arrived back at the lodge. We opened all the doors and windows and it cooled down straight away.

It’s so nice to sit on the terrace with football in between! Ellie sits fascinated by the badgers and rabbits wandering around.

As soon as we had eaten breakfast, we went out exploring a different part of the country park. Today’s walk was lovely because it was through the woods and in the shade. We have 853 acres to explore!

We had a nice lunch out on the terrace. It is so nice and quiet here with lovely views.

In the afternoon we watched the Scotland game……oh dear what a mess their goalkeeper made!

In the evening we ate outside and had a drink or two on the terrace.

We had breakfast and then took Ellie for a long walk in the country park which is right next door to Shear Barn. You can walk into Hastings through the park but it was too hot to walk that far with Ellie.

Of course we watched the England game in the afternoon…..result! Mal cooked dinner and we sat outside on the terrace.

Lovely to be doing very little!

On our early walk this morning we met a 13 week old Goldie puppy. Ellie loved it and it was very attracted to Ellie.

We booked a lodge away for a week which I hadn’t been thinking about because of my tooth pain. I just needed to get that sorted and then think about our holiday. So, we packed and Mal went and drenched the allotments. We also did the same in the garden in case there isn’t any rain while we are gone.

We set off after lunch and took the pretty route, stopping off at St Mary’s Bay on the way. We only stopped for a drink, the place was heaving with day trippers. We are staying at Shear Barn, next to Hastings country park.

We arrived earlier than we should have done but they were happy to hand the keys over.

Well, we were impressed with our lodge, a huge fridge and a separate freezer, even a dishwasher. Lots of decking with outside seating which Ellie loved lying out there. And a sea view as well.

We watched a bit of football and then sat outside having a drink.

Ellie and I were out early again. It’s so peaceful early in the morning. I had to laugh that the house next to the cemetery have had spikes attached to their chimney to keep the seagulls from nesting. It didn’t work, they are now in exactly the same place as last year!

A very humid afternoon. Ellie has started lying in front of the fan, much more and we will get the air con out.

Up at 5.30 again with Ellie. It is surprising how many people stop and chat at that time in the morning. I put fresh iris’s from the allotment on Torin’s grave on the way and met a guy with his Jack Russell putting flowers on his parents graves. I think we must have chatted for about half an hour, a lot about Sandwich and how it used to be.

I had an appointment at the dentist with Avraj as one of my teeth under my bridge at the back of my mouth needs extracting. His plan was to break the bridge and see if he could rescue the tooth. He couldn’t, so out came two thirds of my bridge and my back tooth. I had to have two lots of injections as it hurt when he tried to pull the tooth. BUT he did manage to save the other third of bridge which is now acting as a crown. He sniffed all the way through the treatment as he had bad hay fever! He was very quick and efficient which was just as well as it was such a hot and humid day and I am not good with dentists. When I told him that, he replied nobody is and laughed.  My next dental appointment will be the long awaited one at Maxillofacial in July so I won’t think about that until nearer the time.

Keeping up with the pain killers and just sat in the garden in the afternoon.
