It’s a Bank Holiday and in spite of the constant weather forecast predicting storms, we decided to ignore it and have a BBQ anyway! Rhys had to work as it is, hopefully, one of his busiest days, so Lou, Ollie, Oscar and Josie came round. It was really hot in the garden. Grandad made us a good BBQ.

I was really pleased in the evening to see that Springwatch is back. There is very little on the TV that I find worth watching without thinking that it is another hour/2 hours of my life wasted.

We took Ellie to the orchards. There don’t seem too many apricots on the trees but plenty of apples. As the apples get bigger they bring equipment along to shake the trees so a lot of the fruit falls but even so it seems a bumper crop.

We stopped in the farm shop on the way home to get a few bedding plants. I sorted a bit of the garden out and Mal went to the allotment, trying to tidy all the pathways up with tree bark.
Two gigs in one weekend and even better Fairport Convention are playing just down the road in Sandwich at St Mary’s Arts Centre! We can walk there and I could have a drink!
They just happened to mention that it was 51 years ago they performed their first gig and so they are now in their 52nd year! We never grow tired of seeing/listening to them. They used to dance around the stage…….now they are all seated on stalls! Dave Pegg has just had a hip replacement!

I went shopping early to avoid the madness of the tourists over Bank Holiday weekend! I bought a couple of new pictures for the living room.

A lovely day and so Mal went off to the allotment to put weed suppressant down. He then put wood chip on the top. It seems as though there are no rabbits at this allotment so we will get to eat the vegetables! The one at Preston was useless. Plus things are growing!

We went for a long walk with Ellie along the river. There are two doctor’s surgeries in Sandwich. One is in “The Butchery”, that didn’t seem too tempting but I decided to try them both,  just go in and see what they were like. The first I went in, I asked if they were taking new patients and she said yes. I asked for registration forms and she told me I may not always have an appointment in Sandwich, I may have to go to Eastry and are you on any medication?! I certainly changed my mind about that one, took the forms and left.  What’s the point of having a doctor in Sandwich and then you have to drive to Eastry? So what if we are on medication which we are not!

We went on to the second one, really nice there, she gave us forms and asked us which doctor we would like to register with and told us the opening hours! What a difference. We filled out forms for the second one and walked back with them later in the day. So, we have a doctor.

In the evening we went to Gulbenkian Theatre in Kent Uni to see Albert Lee. He is just so good and tells stories during the performance of the time he sang with Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton etc etc but he was so nice and unassuming. Quite quiet really until he picked the guitar up!!  How he played!

We had a really good evening.

Ellie and I went over to Lou and Rhys’s as they had school runs and no one to take Ollie, Oscar and Josie to school. I took them to school and then when Lou was back home, we took both dogs and walked to Reculver and back. That was a really nice walk.

Lou had another booking and Rhys and I had a good catch up and then it was time for us all to go to various schools. The teachers had been told I was collecting the littlies and they are very good and won’t let them out the doors until they see you.

Back to their house and we played Dobble and cards until Lou was home. It was nice spending time with them.

Summer appears to have gone! I took Ellie for an early morning walk for two hours along the river and it was really quite cold. I called my sister whilst walking as today is her birthday.

Things around the house the rest of the day, not being helped by a rubbish internet.

Tuesday 22nd May 2018

I went shopping and then tried to update this diary. We couldn’t get decent internet where we have been staying and as soon as we arrived home, ours was dreadful. Mal spent three hours on the phone to EE. Their main excuse was that we had a power cut…..err no, or the cooker and microwave clocks would be flashing! Mal relocated the router and all sorts. It meant I couldn’t even upload one photo! It wasn’t until Mal threatened with “not fit for purpose” that they started listening. It makes me cross that you have to battle so much to get through to them. Mal teaches computers, what happens to people with little knowledge?

What a waste of an afternoon.

I have to say we were both really tired, too much excitement at our age……ha ha.
