Mal tried to set up a contract to protect the boiler in our new house. My goodness, how difficult they make it. We want cover from the day we move in and they are saying it is not that easy!! We know there is presently a service agreement  with them and a corgi certificate but they don’t listen, that obviously isn’t good enough! This is British Gas. 

We put some things in a case and went off for one of our “one nighters”. Not far, a hotel in Saltwood.  We drove to Brockhill Country Park on the way, and had a long walk there all through the snowdrops. They have a cafe there too, vegetarian but a really good menu so we had our lunch there. Ellie had a lovely run round too.

Just along the road was the Castle Hotel where we were staying the night. We had a lovely welcome including Ellie being welcomed by the resident dog. We had a drink in the bar and then they showed us to our room which they upgraded to a 4 poster!! There was also a spare bed at the other end of the room….they knew Ellie was coming!

We unpacked and then walked into Hythe. It was all downhilll going and a long walk back up as it was getting dark! 

Dinner was included in the price of our stay and it was steak night and so we both had sirloin and it was very good. There was a nice cosy bar and so we spent the rest of the evening there, sampling some of the gins from the gin menu! I particularly liked Puerto de Indias Sevillian Strawberry gin, Mal did no more than ordered a bottle from Amazon!

We took Ellie out and she met a lot of her doggy friends. Stu saw her, called her and that was it, she ran all the way down the lane to see him! 

The promise of Spring as these are the first daffodils we have across the road.

Mal and I both had appointments at the opticians. His eyes haven’t changed, mine have. I guess I knew that for distance but also for close up. Two new pairs of glasses ordered. The optician did ask if I was happy having two separate pairs and so I told him yes as I didn’t want varifocals. Besides I end up having about three pairs of each scattered around the house/car! So, I’ll start with the first two pairs. 

It was a chilly day and so we lit the log burner as soon as we were back home.

We took Ellie out and met up with Jo and Stu and the three dogs. Ellie had great fun chasing up and down with Lilly.

It was a cold day and we decided to go out for Sunday lunch. We had a Groupon voucher  from when they were 15% off for Chom Choms in Canterbury and so our lunch (excluding drinks)  £16 for the two of us. It is a help yourself to starters, mains and deserts. Not only  do they have the most delicious Asian food but slow cooked legs of lamb and even roast potatoes. Of course we managed to bring some home for Ellie. I always have self seal bags in my handbag! Their Thai red curry was delicious too. Mal finished his meal with all the cheesecakes, profiteroles etc and I was very good and had the fresh fruit!

We took Ellie around the orchards. Not the best of days as it was drizzling. Ellie spent half the time with her head stuck down rabbit holes!

I have been having withdrawal symptoms from not seeing all the animals that surround us! We have our annual pass for Howletts but there isn’t much cover there in the rain and it can get very cold up there so it has put us off going for a while. So today we decided to renew our annual passes fro Wingham Wildlife Park. There was method in my madness as there is a new baby chimp there! We were lucky enough to see the baby who I believe is now two weeks old.

These are rescued chimps from a research centre in America and Tara the mum was on the pill! A lot of the other animals  were asleep or indoors. Both the tigers were sleeping. The ring tailed lemurs were all huddled together inside in a ball! 

It may have been cold but we still had to have an ice cream!

I seem to learn something new every time I visit. Today’s gem was that cheetah’s eyes can see in detail over a distance of 3 miles! They have put new information notices up around the park.

I went to Westwood to get some shopping in the morning. 

We are still waiting to hear from the surveyor for the house we are waiting to buy. We have given up chasing them, what will be will be! No use getting stressed about it.

Today is “Time to Talk day”, about mental health. It’s a taboo subject for many but please try and talk and you may help just one person. It may surprise you how many people suffer with depression and maybe because they are so good at hiding it.

We took Ellie to Minnis Bay. The sun was out but it was freezing with a bitter wind. But as usual there were quite a few people down there and lots of dogs.

It always amuses me that Ellie loves the cold sea but would never swim in the Med! This is obviously where she is happiest.

Winterwatch was interesting in the evening, showing kingfishers in Ramsgate Harbour.
