Another day indoors and I started advertising some things but quite a few want me to deliver things to them…I think not! I don’t have the time.

In the afternoon we had to go to Creditwest as our bank draft should have cleared and we wanted them to do the transfer ASAP as we want to see the money in our UK bank. Yes, Deniz told us it was £4 charge for every £1,000 transferred . That was last week, after we signed the papers she said oh yes and there is another 3% tax on that!!!!  It’s rather like being in the land registry office and they decide to double your imaginary land tax when the estate agent has already told you there is no charge at all. Not only that the very small amount of cash we wanted withdraw  to pay the car hire, we were told the system wasn’t working come back tomorrow.What?!  What kind of bank is this? Prior to this she had tried to persuade us to leave all the money in her bank until we needed it, more interest than the UK….no thank you! Who knows what tax they would have dreamt up by then? We sat there looking really fed up, the phone rang again and guess what, all systems had been restored and we could have the small amount of money we wanted. We were quite glad to get out of there.

We immediately dropped off the car hire money on the way back. 

We decided to go to Tasmahzen in Alsancak in the evening. We haven’t been there for a few years. We sat down and asked for a brandy sour and an Efes. Sorry, we don’t have brandy sour but we have brandy…no thanks! Eventually he produced a fast food type menu, It really didn’t appeal to us and it was only a set menu for 60tl and really didn’t look appetising. Added to that a couple of drunk English guys with their Thai lady friends, we paid for the drinks and left amidst the owner telling us he would cook us anything! No thank you.

Nothing else for it but to go to somewhere we knew was good and a really relaxing ambiance, Tervetuloa. We had lovely food there, better than the roadside cafe and cheaper and a very good brandy sour for only 9tl.

More sorting and boxing! This is getting so boring. We have about 800 books, 200+ LP’s, all sorts of really heavy things which we can’t take back. We have been very selective with just a few books and a few LP’s even though we don’t have a record player in the UK!! Some are just too precious to lose. 

It’s funny that after all this time, some of my plants are flowering for the first time and also the drive is starting to look as we planned! The dog is one of Margaretha’s friends neighbours.

In the evening we went to Charcos with Margaretha. This time we had booked a table and also ordered Kleftico the day before. Mal and I both had it and it was so good. As Margaretha was driving I was able to have another crafty brandy sour! It’s very unusual that I am not driving. At least now they are very busy in Charcos. Cristina had been concerned previously that tourists weren’t coming to them as they are quite difficult to find added to the fact that a lot of hotels now are doing all inclusive.

How did we get to October already?!

Another day of sorting photos which we should have done years ago. We just left them in boxes (FIVE!) and never sorted them. Time to do it now. A good thing we hadn’t just booked two weeks here, we would be in a panic. I also kept all my work from when I was doing Housing Studies . Mal has written quite a lot of books but never bothered publishing any, all those to sort out. When we moved out here we had a clear out then and prior to that I had sent one off to a lot of publishers. Mal got so used to letters saying no thank you that he filed one away accidentally from a publisher who was really interested. By the time he found it, a few years too late!  Fate I guess.

By lunchtime we were ready to go to Açmenya for our roast. As good as always. We chatted to a couple who were doing all inclusive at Riverside and said it was so bad they were eating out! Lena and Willy also came in with some friends and so we told them they would be getting new neighbours. Willy was walking with the aid of crutches. He had meningitis and was in hospital for two weeks.

Mal had to laugh at the presentation of the pate he ordered as a starter!

Very colourful but you can imagine what Mal said it looked like! It was very windy and some people went to eat indoors. Of course, I had to have another crafty brandy sour!

More sorting when we arrived home.
