A nice walk along the river again.

Later I went to Westwood. It wasn’t at all busy for a Saturday. I guess people don’t have much money after Christmas.

A good (lucky) result for Manchester United in the afternoon.

Yeah…. no rain but the car windscreen was frozen. I think I would rather cold and dry at least we can have long walks. We were in Sandwich early and a really nice walk along the river which had mist rising off it.

It was such a nice day we decided to go and have a wander around Wingham Wildlife Park. It was a bonus that hardly anyone was in the park so we spent a lot of time chatting to the keepers.
We walked through the Ring Tailed Lemurs enclosure and one of them really took a shine to Mal, climbing all over him!

We did ask one of the keepers when the chimpanzees are arriving from the USA. There has been a problem with the export license . BUT the newly built home for the eight chimps is all finished and just waiting for them to arrive. You can now go in there and look around. It is very impressive,

It was lovely to be out in the sun. After the Wildlife park we went to The Anchor where we had fish and chips for our lunch. I think this has to be my favourite pub. It was so nice and cosy sitting in front of the log fire. They also allow dogs so we often take Ellie and they do have two resident dogs.

Another good write up about Margate and this area. We like it otherwise we wouldn’t have come back to live here!

We walked down by the river but it started raining again. Nothing else for it but a indoors day and cleaning now all the decorations are down!

Shirley and Steve have rented a house for a week in Minnis Bay, they used to live in this area but moved to Tewkesbury some years ago. We walked Ellie along the beach and then we were invited to breakfast.

It was nice to see them as today is Steve’s birthday, so we took his present with us and had breakfast and elevensies there!! Ellie just lay down in the living room exhausted from her walk.

I hope we will see them again in a couple of days.

We seem to be having a fair amount of rain. Our bedroom is a flat roof extension to the cottage and you can hear it pounding on the roof during the night. It’s a bit like being in the caravan but not so loud! But I have to say I am pleased not to be in Cyprus where the temperature is 6 degrees lower than normal.

We drove to Sandwich and walked by the river. The heavens opened and it poured down, hail as well. Back to the car and we had to take our coats off, they were drenched. Yes, they are waterproof but our jeans were wet where the water had rolled off. As Mal said “the things we do to have fun”!

A dry walk in Minnis Bay and then the rain started again.

We had some Amazon vouchers for Christmas and so ordered a bread maker. Ours is in Cyprus. I have to say a lot of the bread I have bought lately has holes in it and nothing like home baked. The bread maker only took a day to arrive and the delivery man even managed to find our cottage!

We also had a Groupon voucher which we had almost forgotten, for a 3 course meal and a glass of Prosseco for something very cheap at the Crescent Victoria Hotel. So, we booked lunch as we could eat from the a la carte any time . We thought it would be OK but it was excellent , such a surprise. I really don’t know how the hotel survives as we were the only customers in the restaurant and they only had four guests staying in the hotel. It is not in the best part of Margate but is a very plush hotel. This was my lunch!!! Pan seared scallop, pan seared lemon sole and grilled figs with Amaretto chantilly, So good.

Mal had the steak and that alone was £19.75 and I think we only paid £22 for the Groupon voucher!! We learnt a long time ago not to pay full price if we can help it when eating out. Of course we also have a Tastecard!

We just managed another long walk in Sandwich before it started to drizzle. It seems to be the least muddy walk we can find.

It then started to rain when we arrived home and seemed to carry on for the rest of the day!

I watched a good Spurs game, just a shame they didn’t win but a draw better than nothing.
