I walked Ellie around the orchards and Mal worked an hour on his “other” allotment. It has only been an allotment for three years and the last person gave up on it. Mal has planted beetroot and carrots…nothing. He did have a lot of potatoes out of there previously. It’s a good thing his Preston one is doing well.

In the afternoon, Mal did an hour at the Preston allotment while I stayed in for his parcels. They are still arriving.  Of course the rest of the time he is assessing the exam papers. I went out and did some more leaflet pushing through doors. I really don’t mind as it is a lot of walking so good for my fitness! Also Rhys has already had a couple of bookings from this area, so it is worth it.

When we were in Rye last week and wandering around the antique shops we found this tapestry and just had to buy it because it is so much like the Cottage that we live in, Well, we had to buy it!

Happy 70th Birthday to my sister, not that she ever reads this blog! We will be celebrating together next weekend.

It was raining during our walk. Mal and I were chatting and we hadn’t noticed that Ellie was paddling in the really dirty stream! Straight in the bath when we arrived home. She stank. This isn’t her but you get the situation?!

The rain stopped later so I decided to go and deliver some leaflets for Rhys’s business. I got quite a way and the rain started again, I just got wet!  I can’t believe how dirty letter boxes are and what long drives people around here have.

I haven’t mentioned it before because I was waiting to see if it worked but I have put on weight ever since I stopped smoking, having developed a sweet tooth. I then started to think, I am getting older and I know hips and knees may start going, not that I have any problems at the moment. So, in February I went to Slimming World, affectionately know to me as “Fat Club”. I have never thought about dieting and quite honestly with SW, it doesn’t seem as though you are because it is all about food optimisation. I go every Monday evening and last night achieved my 2 stone lost certificate. It’s a bit like getting your mile certificate for swimming when you were at school! I know I only lost half a pound this week but that was good considering I had all that food over my birthday week! I expected to have put some back on.  I don’t obsess over it, just try and stick to it.

When I came back from SW, Mal and I went to The Punch Tavern for dinner, see you can still eat out!

Mal has put some runner bean plants in our back garden against the fence. He has some at both allotments and here as he knows how much I love them. Well, I looked at them this evening and the slugs have munched three of the plants and snapped them off.  I presume it is slugs as I have seen a lot amongst the flowers, so we will have to do something about that.

Thought for the day – “Sisters are different flowers from the same garden.”

It rained a lot in the night but we managed a dry walk, although a little wet underfoot, we managed to dodge the rain.

When we lived in north Cyprus we frequently went to the beach in Karsiyaka and many times were lucky enough to see the volunteers were excavating turtle nests. We also frequently returned in the evening to watch the baby turtles being released. It really was magical. The volunteers help like this to give them a better chance of survival. Sadly only about one in a thousand survive. I don’t think the water pipeline from Turkey did them any favours on their beach either! SPOT (Society for the Protection of Turtles) have a lot of fundraising events. Karsiyaka Volunteers help out too and they are offering people the chance to name a nest for a 50tl fee. The money of course goes to SPOT. I have named mine! I am hoping when we return I will be able to see my nest.

I went and bought some new sandals but not sure when I will be wearing them with all this rain!

We watched the Turkey v England football. Not much to say about that. Of course Mal spent his day assessing exams and I am surprised at the things teachers try to get away with but I guess they are under a lot of pressure to achieve results.

It was a “feeling lucky we live here” day when we went out for our walk. It is so pretty around our house, loads within walking distance. We had all those years in beautiful north Cyprus and now a lovely area in Kent. There was obviously a wedding at St Mildred’s church in the village yesterday.

In the afternoon Lou came round with Josie, Oscar and Ollie. Grandad stopped his exam work and did all sorts of crazy things with them!

Later we watched the football. Well done to Manchester United!

Our early morning walk took us past the horses who were obviously having a lazy morning! Ellie managed to paddle in the filthy stream when we weren’t concentrating on her! Sadly the bluebells in our wood are beginning to die off. The other photo is one of our neighbour’s flowering cherry tree, it has been a picture although some of the blossom is dropping now.

Mal spent the day assessing exam papers and in between complaining to the florist who should have sent me my birthday flowers. As well as that it is my sisters birthday next week and so I thought I would send her parcel by My Hermes. All organised online and there is a garage in Wingham that I could take it to, which I did yesterday afternoon. I went in the garage and people were complaining there was no petrol and the guy behind the counter was having a breakdown I think! I asked if he could take my My Hermes parcel and he said no he couldn’t and to leave! In fact he was really rude. So, we contacted My Hermes and said because my parcel wasn’t accepted then they could collect it. No they won’t!! So Mal has been on chat arguing with them as well. Meanwhile I had to go into Canterbury to drop the parcel off at a different place. It has gone now but it is still not resolved with My Hermes. I think I should have used the Post Office!

I was catching up with everything in the afternoon following our latest trip.

How typical of UK weather, we took Ellie out for her early morning walk and the sun was shining!  Never mind I had a lovely birthday and consider myself lucky to have reached this age, my dad died at 62, so I am lucky.

After breakfast we did more walking around Rye. It is so dangerous going in shops because they all seem to want to feed Ellie treats! Of course she doesn’t object.

Back to the hotel to check out and our last visit was to  Rye Bay fish shop. I love fish and so we bought a lot to take home, all freshly caught.

We had sea bass for dinner, it was so good!

Wednesday 18th May 2016

My birthday! Mal made me a cup of tea and then I opened all my presents and cards. I had some really lovely thoughtful gifts. As well as those evidently Mal ordered some flowers to be delivered on Monday and they didn’t arrive, not even by the time we left yesterday. He is not happy about it. He also managed to leave all his charging leads at Torin’s. He quickly ordered a new lead from Amazon to be collected from Rye Post Office! He can’t function without his laptop as all his exam work is on it!

Breakfast in the hotel and then we took Ellie out for a very long walk. We then went round the antique shops and the historical places.

Then it started raining, heavy rain so we went into a pub and had a drink and then tried to decide where we could dash to for lunch. The cosiest place on a wet birthday where we knew we could take Ellie was “Edith’s House”, the same place we went the previous day. They make Ellie so welcome ! She just lies down by our table. This time we managed to get the two arm chairs at the back where all the books are. It’s a funny place they even have lots of games you can play and even a bag of knitting if you fancy doing some! It’s usually sunny on my birthday!

Back to the hotel and then in the evening we went to have my birthday dinner at Ambrette. It is a lovely restaurant, with tasters and teasers between each course (very posh!!) They have received so many awards. Excellent food, especially all the fish I had and a good wine along with it. We left Ellie in the room but Mal finished his meal with the cheese board, the best one he has ever had he said, and brought Ellie a piece back for her!!

A lovely birthday,
