Mal and I now both have streaming colds so not particularly pleasant walking Ellie in the rain. We then went back to Acol to get the plant pots and also dismantle Mal’s greenhouse  and clean out the garage. We just missed Rhys who had cleaned all the carpets for us.

We now have a working land line with a Canterbury phone number BUT we have to wait for internet connection until Friday! Originally they told us it would be 23rd.

As we were awake early I switched on the washing machine and tumble dryer in the belief that our electricity must be on a cheap rate. As previously explained we have four tariffs from 6p to 19p! Mal has been in touch with EDF and they can’t explain what the times and days are! He emailed back to them saying he has a science degree and fails to understand their explanation as it is contradictory. We may, at last, be having success as a “senior” member of staff has come up with an alternative explanation. If people within EDF don’t understand it, then how do customers.? It was much simpler when we had gas!

Thanks to Clive for the tips/warnings about EDF!

When we finally get this sorted, we can set timers!

We took Ellie for a walk to the upper part of our road . It is a real coincidence this is where Mal’s sister Deb’s boy friend Dave lives. He was out in his onesie feeding the chickens so we called in to see them both. How weird we have moved into the same road!

Another day unpacking and sorting.

We were up early and so went to Minnis Bay so that Ellie could have a swim.

Then up to Range to get some more fencing and the rest of the day at the Acol house collecting the last bits and pieces and cleaning everywhere. A whole day and we still have Mal’s green house to dismantle and a few things in the garage but at least the house is finished. We are meeting the landlady on Wednesday for her inspection. Rhys is going to clean all the carpets for us tomorrow or Tuesday.
We spoke to the next door neighbours (where we have left) and they lived in that house before us and moved for the same reasons as us, the landlady wouldn’t do the repairs. We also discovered that we were paying £250 more than they did!

Another exhausting day.

We now have the house warm. There is only electricity here and we have almost worked out how to use it including the towel rail! It is E7 (called economy 7 in my day!) The 4 different rates are confusing so Mal went on live chat to EDF. Even they seemed confused.

We went exploring for our morning walk with Ellie, through the orchards first and then followed the footpath past the sheep, where Ellie was curious but very well behaved.

We think the path goes into Wingham as we could see the church in the distance.

We have been told that there is an excellent farm shop (Gibson’s Farm Shop) about 3 miles from us, so we decided to visit. Yes they have some very nice things there, including a good floristry department. We asked about the tomatoes  as there are so many that are tasteless. These were from Thanet Earth and they opened the pack so that we could taste them.

Seeing as we have been so busy we decided to have some lunch while we were there, just like oldies do only they are usually at the garden centre!! We had a panini each and were really naughty and finished with a hot chocolate with mini marshmallows and cream!!

Then back and more unpacking and sorting while Mal started putting a temporary fence around part of the garden to keep Ellie in.

Friday 20th March 2015

We had a bed to sleep on last night which was the main thing! But when we woke up Mal and I ached where we didn’t know we had muscles!

The garden isn’t fenced off yet, so Mal walked Ellie early. Oh, there were some weird noises last night from the wildlife park!

There was a solar eclipse this morning at about 9.23. That was a bit of a non event in Thanet as it was cloudy.

Lou had the van as they took the arm chair to their house. She dropped it off in Broadstairs and we picked her up and took her back to  her car which was in Acol. From there we went to buy things like a fire guard, logs and something to cut the fencing , that Mal has to put up in the garden for Ellie.

Unpacking and then in the afternoon we went into Wingham to register our change of address at the Post Office for some reason it wouldn’t accept it online. We didn’t do any of these things until we actually had the keys after our last episode! When we are sorted out, I am sure we will use Wingham village and especially the Anchor and the Dog Inn. We know we can take Ellie into the Dog, we will have to find out about The Anchor. They seem to have entertainment on quite regularly.20-03-15 15-25-29 - 0004
We went to bed early as we were both so tired.

Thursday 19th March 2015

Moving Day!! We borrowed the van for Mal’s sisters Pet Rescue. When we moved from the caravan we gave them all our bedroom furniture. It was a huge van they used to collect it and that is what we thought we were borrowing. No, in fact it was a small one which meant that there were a lot more trips. I went to the cottage and Mal stayed in the old house. Sol helped as well, we needed some muscle apart from Rhys. I carried what seemed like hundreds of boxes. The best thing was to park outside the front gate, shortest distance. If you parked by the garage, it was a long trek across the lawn. Only one problem with this, it is a single track road, with hardly any cars passing but of course they all wanted to use it today.

The beds came first, just as I feared, they wouldn’t go up the stairs. Rhys has to dismantle half the staircase, not so easy as it had an electric wire running through one of the posts. With a lot of pushing and pulling, both king size beds were up. It was a very long day and we finished about 9pm. Lou and Rhys now have our arm chair as it won’t fit! These are small cottagey rooms, cosy but we will have to reorganise as things look a bit squashed the way they are. In fact we have to climb over one settee to get up the stairs, so we will have to swap the sitting room and dining room. Things are never easy.

Mal and I ached by the time we finished.

Wednesday 18th March 2015

We were down at Minnis Bay at 7am. A good run for Ellie and then we went and collected the keys for the cottage. Yes, we have them and yes it is ours! We drove straight to the cottage and emptied out a lot of boxes that we had packed into the car. We then went to buy the posts and fencing so that we can keep Ellie in!

We have decided we are going to treat it as a holiday cottage, well, it is right out in the country and next door to the Wildlife Park! We had to go and buy a lot of light bulbs as only one or two worked! We are getting quite excited now.
