Thursday 23rd June 2011

I went out to lunch with Pauline and Chris and we went to Fast Food in Alsancak. Pauline ordered a cheese pide and my goodness was it huge. As always Ibo and co in there were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Good service, good food and good company, what more could you want?

Thank you Pauline and Chris.

Wednesday 22nd June 2011

Rosie walked and then I went shopping. Cherries in the shops, prices ranging from 9yl -12tl a kilo depending where you buy them. Yummy.

Cyprus Today see link. As I commented there is also a two page spread on CTA, presumably because it is the anniversary. A year ago today we were all left high and dry, with tickets worth nothing, when we had to make alternative arrangements to bring  four of our grandsons over for a months holiday. We didn’t know where we were and whether we would even get them here. We weren’t on our own of course, there were thousands of others. I suppose there is one bonus, none of us have to look at those miserable air hostesses faces any more. At the time I remember it was hell, were we going weren’t we and my son asking the same questions.

At the very start of June I thought it would be nice to send Mal a box of chocolates to cheer him up (he likes surprises). I even chose a nice heart shape box with his favourite chocs inside.  Well, I knew he was busy and appreciated he had probably forgotten to thank me for them, even though that is unlike him. I had ordered them from Thorntons online. So, I went back to the order email just to make sure and to track the parcel. According to them they had been delivered on 4th June. In the end I had to tell Mal. No chocolates had arrived. He checked three times with the owners of the site where our caravan is. NO chocolates had been delivered. For the rest of the story see link. I have to say their second email amused me “we do not appear to have received your emails”. So how did I get the email prior to that? someone was obviously getting them. AND the “18.24pm”. Now I know it was a long time ago when I was at school but we were told that you either use the 24 hour clock OR you put am/pm!  I think Mal can give up any hope of getting his chocolates but I will NEVER be ordering from Thorntons online again. Their customer service does not exist.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~SUMMER SOLSTICE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What better way to start the day? Rosie and I went to the beach. She seems a lot better and had a really good swim. Just us and two fishermen in a boat down there. It’s so peaceful, good for the soul.
I showered her when we got back and then she ran about four laps around the swimming pool. She is better!
Monday 20th June 2011
Rosie ate all her food in the morning so is obviously getting better.
OH NO!! The Potters are back!
I decided to have another big clean. I started in the  bedroom pulling all the furniture out and hoovering everywhere. We have a large pine storage chest in there that I store all the sheets in. I pulled it out and as I did a potter wasp flew into me, along with his/her clay (I’m not sure which gender builds the clay pots) and of course they were right in the middle of building one!
In the evening I watched Wimbledon, first Nadal, he made it look so easy. Then Murray, well he doesn’t. He seems to need a set to warm up. At least he is through the first round. It wasn’t shown on either of the Eurosport channels we have so I watched it via the internet.
Sunday 19th June 2011
Rosie seemed a little better but was still only nibbling at her food and not eating it all.
It seems as though the dog at the Russian house is quieter now. I do hope I haven’t spoken too soon.
I talked to Mal in the evening, quite a difficult conversation as it was in the middle of Margate Air show and the Red Arrows were screeching past. I then rang the grandchildren. They are all doing well. Tariq was presented with the Manager’s “Best Team Player” for the season and he also told me that he is going to be running for Wales. He certainly is the sporty one out of all of them. Well done Tariq.
Update on the “Fitchaps” 3 Peaks in 24 hours challenge. They completed, I understand in 24 and a half hours. Well done all of you. I have heard Joe has his knee strapped up but not sure what happened. I am sure he won’t mind me saying but he is not the fittest of people but has determination, so a real achievement.
Saturday 18th June 2011
I had an awful night, Rosie waking me three times trying to be sick. 2.30, 4.00 and again at 5.00 which meant each time I heard her I had to jump out of bed and let her outside. I gave her worming tablets two days ago but hardly think that can be the problem. In the end I got up at 7 and took her for a short walk. She didn’t want any breakfast and for anyone who knows her, she lives for food!
I then went shopping and bought Cyprus Today see link. Amazingly there was more news in it than usual but as I felt so tired and had a headache, I just put in the main articles, word for word the Kulaksiz case. I have to say that I was totally gobsmacked when I read about Geoff and Mary Day see link. Their builder did not turn up for the court case and then makes an appeal. I wonder in what other civilised country this would be allowed. Mary was ill first and now Geoff is ill. I am guessing this is what their course of action is in so many cases, let’s keep dragging it out until we make them so ill (with the stress) and then they will just give up. Scandalous. These are peoples lives we are talking about, mostly pensioners who came here for a quiet retirement, not to have their life savings stolen from them, not to spend their days in court cases that may have an award at the end of it, money of which is not paid etc etc. In Geoffs case to have his passport taken away for more than two years meaning he was unable to leave the country. Added to this Pauline had her laptop confiscated for trying to report on thier case. No, her laptop has not been returned to her. WHY not?!
The TRNC is becoming less and less appealing. In fact I noticed yesterday David and Kenny have a “For Sale” board up on their house. I am beginning to think that I should tell them if purchasers  don’t want their house, then send them up to ours!
Similar things are going on in the South. The whole of Cyprus should have a health warning.
Joe, the Doc (on the right)
Today I want to wish my nephew in law good luck with his 3 Peaks 24 hour challenge. He is one of the “Fitchaps”. see link Go for it Joe! £2,000 they have been sponsored so far, well done lads.
Kulaksiz 5 v Akfinans Bank were in court again see link. And it goes on…the next date is 30th June.
I spent most of the day rubbing down metalwork!
