19th Nov 2010

Wonderful weather again for November and so we worked outside in the garden.  I went to get some shopping and on the way back saw David, who was painting his railings and trying to put his post box back on when his drill blew up, so I told him to jump in the car and borrow ours.

The people in the huge Russian house in front of us have just acquired a Doberman. So, far he has done a lot of howling, which Rosie barks at and then Jekka, Kenny and David’s dog, joins in!

In the evening Torin came on the webcam with the twins. They are so funny.

18th Nov 2010

Another beautiful sunny day. Mal was cutting trees and uprooting bushes, clearing more of the front garden ready for more fruit trees to go in.  Our oranges are nearly ready to eat…yummy.

Chris brought us some pork chops that he bought in the South and we had two of them for dinner, delicious!! Thanks Chris….much appreciated!

It was another quiet day as it is still Kurban Bayram.  More jobs around the house and then in the evening we rang the boys but Skype was really not at all good and the boys kept saying “Pardon” all throught the conversations. However they are all fine.

We watched the England v France game ….England lost!

16th Nov 2010

It was a really warm day for November, in fact at 10.00pm it was 24 degrees.

Pauline and Chris came round as Mal had a wireless keyboard for Pauline. Her present laptop (borrowed) has a Turkish keyboard . Of course the Police confiscated her computer and still have not returned it.

Mal did more of the cosmetic repairs to the outside of the house prior to painting.

In the evening ITV rang Mal regarding “Homes From Hell”. They had a long chat. It now depends if anyone is prepared to actually tell it as it is regarding each of their problems. see link

Well a lot of comments this morning on yesterday’s vigil. It has evidently been reported well in North Cyprus press, the Turkish speaking press not the English.  Mal and I are in the picture!

There was a flotilla of official cars passed by, with a police escort, during the vigil. They didn’t stop!

In the afternoon we went with Christa and Robin to see the Turkish Stars aerobatic display. We sat right at the front of the harbour, having a few drinks and watching the magnificent display. When the display ended, we went on to Dolce Vita in Catalkoy . They are doing a 20tl deal for three courses for the winter. A glass of wine is 4tl and coffees and brandies were on the house. Excellent value and so we had a really good time.

Candlelit vigil day in Lefkosa!!!!! see link

6.00 am this morning the gun shot started from the hunters. Again far too close to the houses. 40 minutes of it very close during which time there couldn’t have been any wildlife left around because they were being far too noisy for too long.

We took Rosie to the beach so as not to get shot. There were quite a few fishermen down there, a very different breed from the shooting brigade. They all spoke to us.

The internet was still very bad and it took Mal about an hour to put one article on NCFP! I also spent two hours trying to publish this diary!

Lunchtime the Red Stars were in the skies practising for tomorrows air acrobatics for the 27th anniversary of the TRNC.

PEACEFUL CANDLELIT VIGIL – We went along to the vigil. Citizens were actually on the roundabout in Lefkosa and as ‘the rest of us’ had been told, we kept to the side of the road, without torches. The Police in attendance actually looked  a bit bored as everyone did excatly as they were told. In fact if anyone wanted to cross from the traffic island to speak to us, they held the traffic up for them to cross. I will let Pauline tell the rest in her words but thanks are due to the Police and of course to Ismet, without whom the vigil would not have been possible see link

A walk in the mountains with Rosie and then we went shopping. I have to say there was very little in Cyprus Today see link

The internet has been driving us insane it is on off, then on and off again. It is impossible to use Skype, so we couldn’t ring the boys.

In the evening David Haye was fighting Audley Harrison. I guess Rhys spent the whole 3 rounds of the fight admiring his handywork on Audley Harrisons shorts (he did the logo!) He didn’t tell them that he was hoping for a David Haye win, which of course he did!

Don’t forget Sunday’s candlelit vigil in Lefkosa see link

IMPORTANT – There has been a change of venue see link
