Todays thought for the day is quite apt as I invest money via www.kiva.org and thought I can at least share this with readers of my diary. It is an organisation that gives a hand up rather than a hand out to entrepreneurs around the world. They are loaned the money and your contribution is $25.  The length of time for repayment can vary but it is listed on the persons details. So, for example, it can be after 6 months the money is paid back and if you want to you can withdraw your $25 and that is the end of it. BUT I started off with one $25 to see if it worked…….YES IT DOES!! I then invested in a couple more people and each time the money is paid back, I reinvest it.  It is brilliant and in my own little way I am helping less fortunate people to help themselves.  You have nothing to lose by just taking a look and seeing the people who are asking to loan the money.  They are not asking for a donation, it is a loan.

Today I have just made my 27th loan.

More jobs to do during the day. Mal managed to sort a water leak out in the  pool room. I coated the front door and surrounds with preservative. It gets full sun on it all through the summer so was in desperate need of it. I may even give it a second coat another day. Another job ticked off our long list!  I don’t put varnish on it because it would bubble in the heat…….unless I can find some yacht varnish here?!

15th Sept 2010

The past two days have been really windy and so we had a big house clean. We always have all the doors and windows open and of course, all the dust blows in everywhere.

In the evening we went to Sardunya Bay and met Christa, Robin and Robin’s mum who is holidaying with them. It was a lovely evening with good company.

A walk on the beach with Rosie and we caught the sunrise again.

I managed to do a little more hammeriting of the railings but it is still too hot, it was drying on the brush. I think I will have to be more patient and wait until it is cooler. We did start organising the utility room with some see through boxes we had bought in Mr Pound.

We went into Girne, along the bypass and then hoping to drive back along the main road…they fooled us again, this time coming from the bypass and turning left at the roundabout, you can’t! A huge hole in the road just there, a quick diversion and we were back on the main road but goodness is it lumpy now where the roadworks have been. They are not very good in the art of levelling roads once they have been dug up.

We popped into Lemar on the way back. A pack of three kitchen towel rolls for 2.95tl. Mal even checked the bar code to ensure we had the correct price. Yes, you guessed it, arrived at the till and it went through at 4.50tl. I queried the price and was told no I was wrong. No doubt about it I was wrong.  By now two cashiers insisting I was wrong. Mal then took one of the cashiers over to the shelf to show her in fact they were wrong. Then we had the normal look of what a pain we were querying a price when they knew best…no they didn’t. The manager was called, the money deducted off the bill, NO apologies whatsoever and then the cashier insisted she keep my till receipt, erm no, I wanted to check the rest of my bill.  I really don’t know why we bothered going in Lemar, same old story. We then went on to Ileli to do the bulk of our shopping, smiles from the staff and of course charged the correct amount for all our shopping and given the correct change.

I know mistakes can be made but their attitude in Lemar stinks!

Lou sent me a photo of Josie, my how she is growing. She now has her first tooth.

We bought Cyprus Today, a story that should have appeared in it, didn’t! No comment there apart from to take a look at NCFP.

In the afternoon we watched Man U stupidly lose two points, 3-3 with Everton. We then watched the Hammers game, Ok they didn’t win but put up a sterling effort against Chelsea. Mal was almost prepared  to turn the TV off when Chelsea scored their first goal in the third minute of the game. Glad he didn’t!
