23rd Sept 2010

Rosie walked and we took the car  down to Ziggy. He checked it out and suggested that it could be the fan as that was not working. He rang his friend at the electrical auto repair, Tilkoglu. This is next to Ya Beles on the main road. He tested the fan, fiddled with the pipes, tipped more water in, started the engine, in fact, I am not quite sure what he did but he sorted the problem. Mal asked how much and he said “next time”.  I can’t ever imagine any garage in the UK not charging and of course Ziggy didn’t either…thank you both..much appreciated. Ziggys’ garage is on the road towards the Merit, on the right hand side. I have no connection with him just that he is very reliable with my car and very reasonable prices…..doesn’s rip you off because you are British and he speaks very good English. His phone number is :  0090 533 854 8511. As I have said before on my diary, if I get good service then I like to share it!

While we were out running the car to make sure it was OK, we popped into Ileli and bought some Gold Fassl. They have now returned to the large bottles at a cost of 8tl for 6.

You will notice that the diary has changed. Mal and I spent the afternoon changing it. Well, I have to say, Mal was doing all the technical bits and I was saying “yes” or “no”! I hope you like the new format. The photo at the top of the page is Kervansaray and each month I will change the moving picture, as I used to do.

The pictures are of a bush we planted in the garden. It now has some sort of fruit on it as you will see. I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it and my plant book has been sent back to Amazon for a replacement as the spine fell apart!

22nd Sept 2010

After walking Rosie I popped out to get some shopping and the car started overheating. I topped it up with water and limped home by which time it was in the red again. Mal had a look and decided it needed to go to the garage. I rang Ziggy and as we had nothing pressing and he was out on a break down call, we agreed I would drive it down the following morning.

I spent a very warm afternoon gardening, ended up dripping and then into the pool.

For those who have probably been totally amazed by Geoff and Mary’s court appearances, today is their 50th court appearance . Some suggested that badges with “50” on them should be worn for the day!  This really is no joking matter see link

21st Sept 2010

There is a court case going on at the moment, well actually it has been going on for a long, long time. It is a case that very few can believe is actually happening. I guess the best thing to do is to read the link and see if you can believe what is happening to Geoff and Mary Day and that the court is allowing this to continue.

I am certain this is the only country where so much money could be wasted on so many court appearances. It is not only the money but the effect on Mary and Geoff’s health. They obviously have our support, Mal printing the ridiculous reports from the court room. Thanks to Pauline as the roving reporter.

20th Sept 2010

News from the UK this morning that house prices are going to go down again. I just can’t imagine how youngsters over there ever get on the property ladder now when they are asking for large deposits.

We went to the beach early in the morning. It is worth getting up early to see the sun rise down there.

During the day I decided to white Hamerite the air con brackets as one was getting rusty. The ladder was balancing on gravel and half way through it wobbled and I ended up with a lot of tacky white Hammerite up my arm. It wasn’t easy to get off and my arm was really sore. Mal then decided that he would do the non floor level Hameriting in future! I am not good up ladders but then he hates the fiddly jobs!

Mal also painted the living room wall where it had been re plastered.

19th Sept 2010

The temperatures seem to have risen again and not a cloud in the sky. In the afternoon we watched the Man U game. They beat Liverpool and Berbatov scored a hat trick.

In the evening we went to Robin’s for a BBQ. Gary joined us and also some of Robin’s neighbours. It was an entertaining evening.

18th Sept 2010

A really good start to the morning. Torin was awoken early by Jack and so he put Jack and Scarlet on the webcam.  They are growing so quickly.  Photos are of Scarlet and Jack now 18 months old.

Also the previous night we spoke to the boys in Cardiff. Tariq is now in the school cross country team and has also been voted his form representative……he must be popular at his new school. Well done Tariq from your proud Nanny and Grandad! I can see he is going to be the really sporty one in the family.

In the afternoon we watched the Hammers v Stoke game. Hammers got their first point of the season!

17th Sept 2010

Todays thought for the day is quite apt as I invest money via www.kiva.org and thought I can at least share this with readers of my diary. It is an organisation that gives a hand up rather than a hand out to entrepreneurs around the world. They are loaned the money and your contribution is $25.  The length of time for repayment can vary but it is listed on the persons details. So, for example, it can be after 6 months the money is paid back and if you want to you can withdraw your $25 and that is the end of it. BUT I started off with one $25 to see if it worked…….YES IT DOES!! I then invested in a couple more people and each time the money is paid back, I reinvest it.  It is brilliant and in my own little way I am helping less fortunate people to help themselves.  You have nothing to lose by just taking a look and seeing the people who are asking to loan the money.  They are not asking for a donation, it is a loan.

Today I have just made my 27th loan.
