Mal is off to Cyprus this week and so wanted to get his allotments straight before he goes. I dropped him off at the largest one and Ellie and I went to Minnis Bay. It really is her favourite place. She was running in and out of the sea and she loves blowing bubbles in the sea…..

When I collected Mal we called into Tesco. I had bought some microwave rice some time ago, thought it may do for a quick meal one day. When I used it and opened it, it was all mouldy and the date was 9/16. It hardly seemed worth taking back but I doubted if it was only my packet and we were passing. I was asked for my receipt!! I asked the assistant if she kept every shopping receipt she ever had! She then asked if I would like a replacement, I told her no as this was the first and last time I wanted to try this mouldy rice. She then informed me that I couldn’t have a refund as I didn’t have my receipt!! WHY did I bother with any of this?! However, I selected a packet of runner beans in exchange and paid the difference and left the shop! Tesco customer service is sadly lacking as I discovered before. According to the assistant they will be contacting me…just because I asked if they would! Can you imagine a whole batch of mouldy rice and no one saying anything?

A bit early I know but I have just booked Pantomime tickets for December with the littlies to go and see Aladdin! Nothing like being ahead of the game, at least we have good seats.

Ellie slept a lot of the afternoon, she had used so much energy at Minnis!  Incidentally, the Minnis restaurant has now been sold to Shepherd Neame. Their standards had been falling, now we know why.

A wet walk with Ellie but at least I am getting some wear out of my new pink wellies! Mal was going to his allotment but that will now be postponed until tomorrow. At least the allotments are getting watered.

I had to go and get some shopping. Time to get the house sorted after being away and then having visitors and also to start thinking about moving!

Mal opened all his Father’s Day presents. He did very well this year! A lot of useful things.

We had breakfast and then all went out walking Ellie. She had a really good run and Grandad showed Tris and Violet his allotment and gave Violet a couple of fresh strawberries to eat. She said they were delicious.

Violet insisted that she had to brush Ellie, I think she has fallen in love with her!

Then we went to Wingham Wildlife Park for the rest of the day.

Later Violet and Tris caught their train back to London.

We walked Ellie and then into the village to get a newspaper. Lou came round with the littlies to bring presents for Mal for Father’s Day. Of course they will have their own dad to think about tomorrow! They wanted to go and see the cottage as we collected the keys on the way to Sufolk so no one had seen it. They loved it and we all had a walk in the woods at the end of the road.

Tris and Violet arrived in the afternoon and they decided to take Ellie for a walk just as the rain started! Wet dog and wet people!

Later we went and had dinner at the Half Moon and 7 Stars, which will be our local when we move. Of course Tris and Violet wanted to see the cottage and Violet announced “This is my first thatched cottage I have ever been in.”

We were booked to stay until Saturday but one of Mal’s sons had been in touch and wanted to visit over the weekend and seeing as it will be Father’s Day, we decided to leave a day early. That and the fact we had the most uncomfortable bed ever!  We stopped at the brewery in Southwold on the way as we had a 10% off voucher from the tour the previous day and so bought a supply of beer.

Next stop was the lifeboat museum which until now we hadn’t managed to find open.

We then went to the harbour to buy a fresh lobster to take home, then on our journey home.

We are extremely lucky not to be in hospital now. I was following my lane on a huge roundabout in Essex and obviously another driver had missed his exit and decided to cut right across in front of me, so fast I really don’t know how I missed him. I was shaking after he shot away. I swear I missed him by an inch maximum. Someone up there was looking after us.

On the way back we stopped at Faversham farm shop to buy new potatoes, strawberries etc

We unpacked our cases and couldn’t resist going and having a quick look at our new home. Lots of gardening to be done already!

We had a lovely dinner of lobster salad and new potatoes followed by local strawberries.

The exciting new of the day is that after all these years Dreamland in Margate has re-opened!

A really nice breeze and so another long walk along the beach but Ellie has discovered the rabbits just above the sand dunes!

We then spent the morning in Oulton Broad.

A very special lady, Irene, who contacted me previously through this blog had been in contact again telling me she lives in Kessingland, what a coincidence, so we met up and how lovely to meet her at last. She also has a place in north Cyprus.

We then had a tour booked at Adnams Brewery. I have to say not the most exciting of brewery tours but Mal enjoyed the tasting at the end. I was disappointed that Adnams seem to import everything they can, including hops!

I do love my fish and we had a lovely fish platter at the Sole Bay Inn.

The sun was out so we had an early morning beach walk, a long way.

I didn’t know Mal had taken the photo of me. He was trying out the camera as I had tripped and fallen over, face down and the first thing as always in the sand was my camera! It’s a bit crunchy but the photos came out OK. This is why I have two cameras, a good one and a cheaper one I put in my pocket, or as it was in my hand and straight in the sand….oh dear!

A very warm day and so we spent the day in Lowestoft. I loved this and so did Ellie….

They do look after dogs around here, lots of water bowls everywhere.

We had a meal at The Waterfront, very good food. It’s just 5 minutes walk from the caravan. It was so warm we sat outside with Ellie.

A nice Kentish write up in today’s Independent. No wonder we wanted to move back there!!
