5th Sept 2010

A lazy Sunday! I know every day is much the same here but we do enjoy doing very little on a Sunday. The day started off with Rosie nudging me with her nose to wake me up at 7.00am. Very late for us, obviously because of the early morning going to bed. So, we took her out to the mountains.

A few days ago when walking Rosie in the ravine, we found this tree and were intrigued to find out what it was. Always curious as to what things are around us. Mal’s degree is in biology and he always has an eye out for new things  we find, or at least ones we haven’t noticed before.

We discovered it is Storax (Styrax officinilas) Styrax is used as a herbal medicene.

4th Sept 2010

Down to the beach with Rosie and another great sunrise.

In the evening we were invited to Lena and Willy’s and Ingrid was there as well.  We had a lovely evening. They are our neighbours but we don’t meet up with them often enough. We had crayfish, nice and messy but delicious.   Tariq rang while we were over there, so I said I would call him when we got home. We did and he was full of his football match that day playing for Canton Rangers, they won and he scored two of the goals. His brothers said he was the best player there…praise indeed! He also said he enjoyed his first day at big school. That’s good. By the time we had spoken to the whole family in Cardiff, it was 1.00am when we went to bed.

3rd Sept 2010

An exciting day for two boys, their first day at ‘big’ school. Good luck to Tariq (our grandson) and to Callum (Bev and Gary’s grandson). Knock ’em dead boys!

It’s quite frightening how the years are zipping by. We now have three grandchildren at Secondary school.

Mal and I went into Girne (bypass as still roadworks on the other road.) Mal collected his glasses and was very pleased, even had a posh Burberry glasses case to go with his Burberry glasses. I was not so peased as try as I might my new ‘reading’ glasses made me screw my eyes up when I use the computer. I took my new and old prescription back, my new and old glasses. Problem solved, Vision Express had written me two prescriptions, one for reading and one for the computer….what a pity they didn’t bother to tell me, just said I needed them for reading.   At least Akay Optik explained to me. So, they then offered to put the reading lenses into my old frames at a cost of 32tl which I thought was very reasonable.  They said they would ring when my glasses were ready..they rang three hours later. Very impressed with their service and  my only dissapointment is that I have now joined the two different pairs of glasses brigade!

2nd Sept 2010

We managed to do quite a bit of gardening and Mal launched his classified ads section on NCFP see link

We made a spur of the moment decision in the evening to go and have fish and chips. What better place than Sardunya Bay? There was such a lovely breeze down there and the food was absolutely delicious.  Again a beautiful sunset.

1st Sept 2010

Happy Birthday David (our neighbour)!

Another cooler walk with Rosie.

Mal has decided, by request, to add a classified ads section to North Cyprus Free Press. He spent a lot of the day finding the best software to use for it. As with anything we do, no money involved, advertising will be free.

In the afternoon Lena, Ingrid and Willy came over. They have a male  puppy, about 5 months old, German Shepherd, house trained, looking for a home. His name is Tango. If anyone is interested please contact Lena, details on their website  www.willenco.com

Please someone offer him a kind home, Lena is looking after him temporarily but if a home can’t be found he will have to go to KAR as the kennels are already full with boarders.

31st August 2010

There was talk of rain Wednesday or Thursday this week but none today in spite of the black clouds occasionally above us. But thankfully the weather has cooled slightly so a much more pleasant walk with Rosie, starting off with 27 degrees instead of the 30’s it has been for so long.  Much better.

We even managed to do a bit of gardening!

30th August 2010

In the morning we took Rosie to the mountains. Again Bobby (dog from the village) was waiting to come for a walk with us. He even played with Rosie’s ball along the way. At the end of the walk he just wanders back off to the village.

We had intended going into Girne but seeing as the road was shut off from by the Ship for the roadworks, we just went back to Lemar and then home. Milk and apple juice are cheaper in Lemar, so we stocked up on those and the usual tray of eggs for 4.50tl!
