Marion and I went off to Whitstable, a wander around the harbour and looking for wedding clothes! We didn’t buy any fish in the harbour as it is grossly overpriced there, especially for the DFL’s (Darn from Londons!!) The wedding is in the woods so it isn’t your normal wedding outfit! After lots of “trying on”, I did manage to find a suitable dress in a little boutique there. I just need all the ‘bits’ now to go with it. I know it is late in the day and the wedding is very soon but we had no direction at all as to what people would be wearing except “something you feel comfortable in.”

We also popped in to Sol’s restaurant but he wasn’t in yet as he was at college.

In the evening we went out for dinner and went to the Fitz which is a lovely country pub not far from us. It was such a lovely evening we ate out in the garden.

I don’t know how but Mal managed the whole three courses with an enormous gooey chocolate dessert to finish! Marion and I only had two and that was too much! A lovely evening but sadly the landlord and landlady are leaving the pub in October to return to Portugal.

We went to Stone Bay with Ellie and spent a long time on the beach.

We then had a walk around Broadstairs. Mal went to the allotment in the afternoon and later Marion and I walked down to meet him and pick some broad beans and strawberries for dinner.

We spent the rest of the time in the garden with a large jug of Pimms! The best way to use all the ingredients is to replace the strawberries with frozen raspberries then you don’t need ice which will dilute it.

The three of us walked Ellie and she decided to go through a small hole in the fence of one of the orchards by us. Of course she was chasing rabbits. I called her and she just carried on running with total rabbit focus! In the end I had to crawl through the gap in the barbed wire and go looking for her. Mal and Marion stood in the same place. I walked a long way and finally she came galloping toward me, obviously in a total panic because she thought she was lost. She was running so fast and then collapsed at my feet. She was so exhausted because it was already very warm. I will have to remember to take water with us now the weather has warmed up. Silly dog.

Marion and I went into Canterbury for a look around and for a city it wasn’t as hot as we expected. We called into my shop and had a chat with Jack and then went to have lunch. After lunch we went into Westgate Gardens until it was time to go to the theatre.

 We had tickets at the Marlowe for the Buddy Holly Story. It was really good with excellent musicians.

Mal had our dinner ready when we arrived home. We ate in the garden and spent the rest of the evening out there. We even saw a couple of foxes wandering through. They moved very quickly when Ellie caught sight of them!

I volunteered at Demelza. Jack was off again and Linda was on holiday, so Robert came to stand in. In actual fact we took quite a bit of money for a change . A man came in and bought two dress suits so that helped and we sold some wedding hats.

Early morning I had washed all Ellie’s blankets and her teddy. By the time I came home she had the teddy off the line and trying to get it to smell as she likes it! Roll it around the garden a few times!

We took Ellie around the orchards. The plums look as though there is going to be a really good harvest.

From there we drove into Sandwich for ‘Le Weekend’, all things French. We didn’t stay too long as it was really hot and we had Ellie with us. Sandwich is a dog friendly town so there were water bowls everywhere but Ellie was tempted by all the food smells!

In the evening we went to the Marlowe to see Juan Martin. We have seen him many times before and he really is the best ever flamenco guitarist. This time he had a flamenco singer and dancer with him. The dancer was only 19 but the best flamenco dancer I have ever seen. We were in the front row and in this theatre (the Studio at the Marlowe) we were about two foot from the performers. It was an evening as if you were in authentic Spain , all we needed was the sangria! A great evening.

We were out with Ellie early taking her for a good long walk as we were off to Howletts to meet Lou, Ollie, Oscar and Josie. It rained a little walking Ellie but then the sun was out for the rest of the day and we had a lovely picnic out in the sun.Our membership had just run out, so we renewed that. It really is worth it for us.

Two of the gorillas had been moved to another group and the keepers were hand feeding them as they had lost their appetites. Hopefully this will only be until they settle in to their new group. We spoke to the keepers and they are all so well informed and friendly.

We spent a long time watching Arina and her foot looked as though it was giving her a lot of pain, in fact she looked really off colour. She does have brittle bone bless her.

She will always be on her own, she isn’t strong enough to be in with another tiger.

They then all came back to our house. Rhys was working.
