We were up early to watch results coming in. Perhaps I shouldn’t mention politics but my career was in social housing, I saw what happens to the less wealthy in this country. I was in housing when council houses were being sold off and the money was going to be “ring fenced”. NO it wasn’t! Suffice to say I am concerned about my grandchildren’s future and extremely happy that after 99 years Canterbury and Whitstable have gone Labour. Enough said.

I went off shopping, still looking for something to wear for a wedding, no idea! I tried a few things on but didn’t really like them. I arrived home and the electrician was here fitting our new smart meter. He had arrived two hours early as someone had cancelled. All fitted but it’s not connected to the main computer yet. Someone has to come back in two weeks and press a button!

We then watched Murray being knocked out of the French Open!

Ellie just taking it easy on the sofa!

I walked Ellie early and left Mal sleeping as at 8am we had to sit with our fingers poised over our keyboards to buy concert tickets! Not for us I hasten to add and can’t say too much as they are a surprise. Of course the website kept crashing and twice having been allocated tickets it then told us there was an error but we are persistent and had several windows open to keep refreshing! Yes, we finally bought them! Never used to be like this in the ‘good old days’.

I then went to have my hair done. I have stayed away from Marcello as he was getting complacent doing my hair but I have had some awful hairdos from other places and none of these places are cheap. I finally decided I would give Marcello another try as the last hair cut very recently needed sorting out.  Perhaps staying away did the trick, he did a really good job but then he wasn’t very busy so took a lot of care and seemed to be pleased to see me.

Lunch and then we both went to the allotment to pick more beans and strawberries and some raspberries. On the way back we went to put our X on the voting slip.

I forgot to mention a nice story I heard in the shop on Monday. A lady had a group of students parking outside of her house. They were going to the summer ball and she told them how lovely they all looked and to have a good evening. The next day she found a bouquet of flowers on her door step with a note thanking her for such nice words before the ball. Yes, there are so many good people still around.

We were tempted to stay up all night and watch the election results but after the first few, decided to go to bed.

In spite of being born in the East end of London, I really am not a towny and anyway London has changed beyond all recognition and most Londoners can’t afford to live there any more. I love the countryside, so given the option of dropping Mal off at Canterbury station (on the horrendous ring road) or Adisham, I chose Adisham.  But we just thought we would take a look around Adisham this morning, it is only a few miles from us but we don’t know it too well. We took Ellie and had a lovely walk along the North Downs Way. So many public footpaths left overgrown with the wealthy landowners hoping no one will notice they are taking them over one by one. A bit of a battle for Ellie.

There is a college who are after Mal to teach computer studies and so having had a telephone “interview” they wanted to meet him and so we went back to Adisham in the afternoon so that he could catch the train.

As usual I am a total addict to Springwatch each night. One of my birthday presents was “Fingers in the Sparkle Jar.” by Chris Packham. I haven’t read it yet. I am saving it for when I am not allowed my e-reader travelling to Cyprus.

A dry walk with Ellie but then I headed to Birchington. I had some things to take to the charity shop which I didn’t want to carry into Canterbury and it is very difficult to park near our shop. That’s another huge bag got rid of. I have a load more to take on the bus next Monday! I have kept the best for Demelza! Well, walking from the car park to the charity shop in Birchington I was totally drenched. It wasn’t just the rain but the wind was horrific so I couldn’t use an umbrella.  Deep puddles everywhere. I had to change all my clothes at home as they were really wet.

By lunchtime the rain had stopped so Mal went off to the allotment.

This is Sol with his certificate and his Southern Salon Culinar gold medal. Well done Sol.

Well, I caught him this morning, now I know who is eating all the bird food. He didn’t hang around for long when I let Ellie out!

I went into Demelza for my volunteering day. Jack was on holiday and so Lauren, the Manager was in. She is really nice and good to see her as I have only seen her once since she interviewed me, so it was good to work together.
Sol was entered into a competition through catering college and they asked him to do the vegetarian pasta section which he wasn’t too impressed with. However, he used all local produce and went out foraging and won GOLD!! Well done Sol.

We were up early and I let Ellie out into the garden only to discover she was eating fat balls we had left out for the birds. I really don’t know how they managed to get them out of the holder, I guess it may have been a combination of squirrels and rabbits! Needless to say on her walk that followed, she was sick!
Back home and I prepared all the salads for a BBQ as Lou, Rhys, the littlies and my wounded soldier were coming round. The last day of the holidays for the littlies and Tariq was just fed up I think. He has another week at home before he returns to the Marines for the start of his rehab.

A lovely afternoon and then we had to watch the concert from Manchester. Excellent concert, bless Ariana!

I went shopping early to avoid the crowds and so Mal said he would take Ellie. Well, two roads out of the village were closed so I had no alternative but to go to Westwood, which I hadn’t planned on doing. But while I was there I went into Dunelm for diffuser oil and came out with a lamp and two pairs of curtains!

There was a wedding on in the church in the afternoon. Having spoken to the vicar, I know that you have to attend church on 6 occasions before they will marry you in this church. So few church weddings nowadays, at least in this village.

More clearing of the garden in the afternoon while Mal was at the allotment. He brought home lots of goodies again, including some really tasty strawberries.

It was quite entertaining in the evening listening to the music from the wedding.
