The forecast was for heat and so Ellie and I were up and out at 4.30am! It really is a magical time of day. The first thing we did was go to the cemetery and change Torin’s flowers for some Mal brought back from the allotment. All this heat means the flowers don’t last long in full sun. The two rose bushes I planted either side of the stone have had so many blooms on them.
All the ducks were up and preening themselves.
A morning visit to the allotment, we thought it wouldn’t be quite so hot. All watered, three more courgettes, runner beans, potatoes and some roses to take to the cemetery.
In the afternoon we sat in the garden even though it was hot and we had the air con on indoors! It was the third hottest day since records began!

I returned some things I bought online from Asda and they said they couldn’t refund my money. Then another assistant said that they could take them for me and send them back. I asked them to do that. They scanned the code on the packaging and said I’d have the money refunded in 10 days! I asked for a receipt………”We don’t give receipts”. I explained I had no proof I had returned them. The assistant just walked away! Asda is now crossed off my list of supermarkets to go to!! Let’s hope I do get the money back!
Sainsbury’s now have 25% off wine when you buy 6 bottles, so I went in there and stocked up with my favourite wine.
Some days grief just totally consumes you when you least expect it. Today was one of those days.
Thought for the Day – “Use your voice for kindness, your ears for compassion, your hands for charity, your mind for truth and your heart for love.”
For today’s walk we drove to Deal and walked to Walmer and Kingsdown. Such a lovely day.
In the evening Naomi came to visit. She is Mal’s ex’s nieces daughter, if you follow that. She is trying to get through Biology A level and is struggling, so a bit of tuition from the maestro, more on how to study, which as Mal says never seems to be taught!
Thought for the Day – “Never blame anyone in your life. The good people give you happiness. The bad people give you experience. The worst people give you a lesson. The best people give you memories.” ~ Ziad K Abdelnour
Mal went to the allotment on his own in the afternoon. I am finding so may different ways to cook courgettes. We love them. Of course runner beans every night too and still the blackcurrants keep coming.
Thought for the Day – “No matter how good or bad you think life is, wake up each day and be thankful for life. Someone somewhere else is fighting to survive.”
I went to Ramsgate to collect some clothes I had ordered online. Took them home and they didn’t fit, so they have to go back. This all seems such a waste of time that you can’t try things on. Perhaps I will just give up trying! It also seems very odd that you CAN try wedding gowns on at Demelza! What a lot of confusing rules.
Back to the allotment in the afternoon. More picking runner beans and courgettes and a little weeding and the sky became blacker, so we came home!
Thought for the Day – “If 2020 is telling us anything….It’s telling us enjoy the moments we have and don’t take any day, anything or anyone for granted.”
We took Ellie out and then I started cooking lunch. Rhys had raging toothache from the tooth he is having out on Wednesday and hadn’t slept all night so he stayed home to sleep. Lou and the kids went to the allotment with Mal. The kids planted some carrots and beetroot in their patch and then they collected 4 and a half kilos of blackcurrants! I had already made a blackcurrant and apple crumble with the ones we picked the previous day! I also made a creamy bread and butter pudding. Of course we made a plate up for Rhys.
Later we watched the Spurs game while watching all the other results as it was the last day of the footie season.
Thought for the Day – “Make yourself a priority once in a while. It’s not selfish. It’s a priority.”
A walk with Ellie in the morning. Mal went to buy my paper and he wouldn’t wear a mask. He ran into the Co-op, grabbed the paper, put it over his face and jumped the queue and gave the money to the cashier and ran out. The older he gets the more impossible he becomes!
We went to the allotment in the afternoon but it started raining and we had to come home. But we have loads of runner beans and courgettes and potatoes.
In the evening I cooked an Indian with Jack fruit. It’s the first time I have cooked Jack fruit and can’t say I was too impressed as it didn’t seem to hold all the flavours of the mustard seed, nigella seed, cumin seed and the many other spices in there! I cooked courgette masala with it.
