From today everyone has to wear face coverings in shops. I should have shopped yesterday! It was awful. I had quite a thick mask and it just kept making my glasses steam up, so I couldn’t see anything. Twice in Tesco I dropped my glasses. It really was very frustrating and I ended up buying the thinner masks but quite honestly they were just as bad. I gave up with the rest of the shopping and only drove to Birchington to the butchers. I wanted a large gammon joint for Sunday but he didn’t have any. Instead I bought their offer of the day 5kg of chicken breast for £17!! His meat is far superior to supermarkets. I then had to find another butchers who did have a large gammon joint. All this with a stupid mask on. Sorry but if they are so important why weren’t we told to wear them in March?!

I heard from Rhys and he has raging toothache and is going to have his tooth out on Wednesday.  I am still waiting to hear about my maxillofacial appointment……one day!

Tris gave us vouchers for Christmas for Ambrette, a lovely Indian restaurant. We were going to use them for Mal’s birthday and then everything locked down. We have watched and waited for them to open back up and nothing so we contacted them and they said they are refurbishing and won’t open until September!! We had thoughts that by then they may even go bust so we decided to order a home delivery. Delivery costs to us would be quite expensive but they said as we had vouchers and we couldn’t visit they would deliver free of charge.  They serve quite small portions in the restaurant so we ordered three courses…………they were huge!! This is a very special Indian, you can taste every spice in each dish.

It was delivered on time and was delicious. Mal’s Goan pork was huge. I had sea bass.

Lou and the kids came round and we all went to the allotment. They picked a lot of blackcurrants, in fact over 3kilo.

Back home and we all had lunch in the garden and I had made another of Nadiya’s recipes, Marmite Wellington with egg.

Torin’s Birthday

Each year on Torin’s birthday we go to The Crispin for a meal and a toast to Torin.

We stopped at the cemetery on the way. I had left flowers in the morning and Lou and Rhys put more there.

Our meal this year was much more complicated because of all the precautions. It started off, the fact we were a table of 7, one more than the recommended maximum of 6. Terry very kindly let us have the snug room to ourselves. Of course all the screens were up at the bar, disposable menus etc etc. They have only been open a couple of days and it really was all very strange.

I have to be honest that the food wasn’t as good as usual but these really are strange times for landlords to try and cope with.

A sad day.

It was such a lovely day again, we took Ellie to Stone Bay. Dogs are allowed on the beach until 10 am. She even found a beach buddy to swim with.

Down to the allotment in the afternoon, to keep it watered and a bit more weeding.

We have been looking into the government’s ‘Eat out to Help out’ for August and have just booked a half price afternoon tea at one of the pubs in Sandwich!

I went into Ramsgate to return more things I ordered online. I also managed to find some Jack fruit which I have been looking for to make a curry.

I tried  to get some cash out of machines. Two were out of order. I called into Wilko. There wasn’t a queue outside but the queues at the tills were horrendous. I then discovered why. None of their machines were able to let people use cards for contactless. Then the chip and pin stopped on them all too! The cashier said this was happening to the entire town. What is going on?! Shopping is becoming very tedious.

I heard from Demelza, obviously they have to prepare work rotas. I have told them I will not be going back until at least October. I don’t feel it is safe, particularly handling secondhand clothes. Rhys isn’t back at work yet, so as part of our bubble, I am certainly not going to take any risks. If we just ignore it all now, then what has the last 4 months all been about?

We took Ellie out for quite a long walk, quite exhausting as it was so humid.

We were invited to Lou and Rhys’s as Rhys had cooked game pie for the men and salmon parcels for the ladies. What a lovely lunch and Ollie baked sticky toffee pudding, so good!

Spurs won their game……Man U didn’t but we had a lovely afternoon.
