We mowed the lawn and finished tidying the garden and then we took Ellie over to Lou and Rhys’s as we are soon off to Cyprus. I hate leaving her but she is fine at Rhys’s, I could never leave her in kennels and Torin, who often has her, is coming with us. What nice neighbours we have, India has offered to water all my pot plants while we are gone.

It seemed a very empty house in the evening with no Ellie.

After taking Ellie I had yet another trip into Canterbury to buy some sandals for the wedding in the woods on Saturday. In fact I found two pairs of sandals but one are much easier to walk in than the other maybe I’ll decide on the day whether vanity wins over.. Can I really balance on platform soles after all these years?!

I also found a leather handbag which matches both.

In the afternoon I was gardening while Mal went to the allotment.

Mum and dad spotted flycatchers are backwards and forwards to their babies all the time.

What a chancer! He soon ran when he saw Ellie.

Well, we had Dominic’s first wedding in the morning. We, the select few, were all at the registry office by 10.15. The bride and groom arrived 2 minutes before it was due to start! I say their first wedding as this was the ‘official one’. The Festival wedding is in woods on Saturday!

We then all went to the Belgian Cafe for breakfast. Well, by that time it was time for lunch so Mal and I had the sea bass which was very good.

It was very warm overnight accompanied by mozzies buzzing around the room. I gave up at 4.45 and left Mal in bed and Ellie and I went out for our walk. At least Ellie wouldn’t be dragged along in the heat. Best time of the day, there was a mist over the crops and the sun had just started to rise.

We went into Canterbury later and bought some clothes for our holiday and some other bits. It was too hot to stay too long but did have lunch there.

In the afternoon Mal went to the allotment. Now we have potatoes, gooseberries, cherries and the strawberries and broad beans BUT the rabbits have eaten all the runner beans AGAIN!!

I went upstairs to hang out of the bedroom window to dead head the roses that are growing up the front of the house. It was then I noticed the spotted fly catcher eggs have hatched. How tiny!

A very hot day at Demelza. The shop was so hot and we didn’t have a fan but we survived the day. It was just Pedro, Jack and I in the afternoon. Plenty to do as we had to remove all stock over 2 weeks old, not an easy task. Pedro is off to Greece next week for 3 weeks. It’s the first time he has been back home for over three years, so he was getting excited.

Mal had dinner ready when I arrived home.

We have a fledgling in the garden but we are not sure what it is as it is quite big and very friendly. I walked past the bird feeder and it didn’t move. In fact I got so close I thought perhaps it had its foot trapped but no, it just seems to have no fear.

I noticed that the turtles in Cyprus are now laying their eggs and realised I haven’t seen anything advertising sponsoring a nest. I have now contacted one of the volunteers and it seems some sponsorship was left over from last year and then they have had a lot this year, so really good news. I have sent the sponsorship money anyway, even if I have to wait until next year, it’s all in a good cause. I can’t praise the work of the volunteers of Karsiyaka Turtle Watch enough. Thanks Moyra for all your help too.We frequently went to the beach on Sunday mornings and met up with a group of them marking out new nests or excavating nests that  had begun to hatch ensuring the maximum numbers survived.

Another early morning, Father’s Day so Mal had a card and present from me and then we took Ellie to Minnis Bay. Bad decision! There is now the mid June seaweed which we had forgotten about and the council haven’t cleared any and it stinks. This happens every year and I feel sorry for the people who pay a small fortune for one of the beach huts to have stinking seaweed in front of them. At least we have the option of going to another beach.

As it was Father’s Day, we were invited out for lunch with Lou and Rhys and the littlies at the Dog and Duck, Pluck’s Gutter. It is a lovely location overlooking the river and they have a large very pretty garden but it was so hot we had to keep moving the umbrellas! Here are the two brilliant dads, Rhys and Mal….

They also had a singer/musician in the garden. It was a lovely afternoon. I think Rhys and Mal both enjoyed their Father’s Day! Mal came home and fell asleep in the lounger in the garden!

We were all up early, it must be nearly mid summer!! It is so light so early. We have so many birds in the garden, this morning was the woodpecker’s turn.

I drove Marion back to Canterbury station where she caught the train home.

We heard from David and he couldn’t pay our water bill until we have paid for the NEW meter. It seems now everyone has to have a new meter. So, he kindly paid out 350tl for ours, obviously we reimburse him but it’s so kind he does all this for us. So, he sorted all our water out and then went to pay his and they charged him 400tl for his!!! Of course he asked for an explanation for the price difference but just told me he exited the offices “very confused”. Just as they like it!

Mal had the afternoon at the allotment and I sat out in the garden, in the shade as it was very hot.
