There wasn’t any sun streaming through the bedroom window first thing! Instead we have flood warnings. So, we had an early morning walk, before the rain was due to start. It was really looking like autumn in the woods.

We noticed that a holly tree just along the road is full of berries, I wonder if they will still be there at Christmas.

We will be conducting an excavation and release of hatchlings tonight so if you’d like to come along and watch them hopefully coming out of the nest and then see them start their journey into the sea tonight, come along and join us. Please note that the excavation will take place at the far end of the beach, so there will be a 5-10 minute walk there and back. Please meet at The Turtle Shack, Guzelyali Beach, Karsiyaka at 17:45. With regard to the ongoing “talks” in Cyprus, this is interesting. 

About 11am the heavens opened. It just carried on raining. I think we had forgotten about rain. In the afternoon the power kept going on and off. That reminded me of Cyprus!

Mal took Ellie for her afternoon walk and they were both drenched when they arrived back. Well, Mal wanted rain for his allotment…he has it now!

Another hot day and so we had a shady walk around the orchards. We also popped into Elgars agents as they have a house in Wingham for rent and really out of all the villages, I think Wingham is the one we prefer, it has two good pubs and a post office and little general store. What more could you want?! The house in question may not permit a dog. The girls in Elgars know us well as they were the ones who tried to help us when the Pegwell house fell through two days before we were due to move. They’ll let us know. They also know Ellie well as she makes herself at home in their offices. There’s no rush as we are quite happy where we are for now.

River is getting ready to go to Uni, Freshers weekend coming up. I remember when I worked at Canterbury Christ Church Uni and we all had to work that weekend, I hated it. But it did always make me laugh with some of the students who hadn’t got a clue how the world outside home worked! I had so many sitting at my desk crying throughout the year that they paid for me to do a counselling course! . At least River won’t have far to travel home when he has spent his grant and is hungry!

Mal collected more fruit and vegetables from his allotment in the afternoon. He was going to water it but rain is forecast for tomorrow.

We watched a very good programme in the evening, the GP who confirms that long term tablet taking in many cases is not a good thing. It’s well worth watching on catch up.

…..and yes I do believe in Karma!

It was another beautiful day and so we decided to make the most of it and we took Ellie to Stone Bay. Dogs are allowed on the beach there until 10am. She loved it. Only a couple of weeks and the beginning of October dogs will be back to all the beaches any time of day. I couldn’t believe there were so few people down at the beach but I guess all the kids are back at school and most tourists go to Broadstairs main sands.

It’s much nicer being by the sea than in London!

We decided to go out for dinner in the evening and headed for the harbour in Ramsgate, a nice balmy evening and all the tables outside. We had tried all through the day to book a table at Waterfront but no one answered. So we went in and they said their phone had broken!! Anyway, we booked a table and asked for a drink. Three real ales were covered up, they didn’t have anything. So as we had booked the table for a little later, we walked to the Belgian Bar so Mal could have a decent beer.

Back to the Waterfront. We chose this as we had such a good meal previously……not so tonight. Typical, you find somewhere good and then it goes downhill. In fact ,most of  my lamb I put in a doggy bag for Ellie as there was too much fat and parts were very chewy. What a shame. Smaller portions, beer not being replaced and the phone not working. it’s sounding as though money is short.

To compensate we went into the Italian restaurant just along the harbour and had an ice cream each!!

Ellie was pleased to see us back with all that lamb.

So today they had predicted it was going to be the hottest day of the year and where had we, Red Hatters booked to go?………………………..London, possibly (in my view) the worst place to be in the heat. It ended up with only three of us going and so we decided to not wear red hats and purple clothes. We had a coach to take us to Buckingham Palace state rooms. Jackie is waiting for a hip replacement and walks with the aid of crutches and Jean has many ailments and is 80 and uses a wheelie zimmer thing. Well our coach driver was pretty useless and what we didn’t know was he was dropping us off at Harrods and then we had to make our own way to the V&A. Not far you may think but remember the problems the two ladies I am with have! We found a creperie around the corner in Kensington and had our lunch there and by that time we had to make our way to meet the coach.

On to Buckingham Palace where at least we had made arrangements to go in the special “disabled south gate entrance”, where we were golf  buggied to a lift, after being thoroughly searched.  Jean does make you laugh, as we were golf buggied through the gates she was giving everyone the other side of the railings, the royal wave! People were even waving back to her!! We had special access (avoiding all the stairs). We walked all around the state rooms and saw the Queens clothing exhibition but it was all very busy.

We ended up in the cafe in the Palace grounds and  also looked in the shop where things were extremely expensive! It was HOT!!  We may have been buggied in but no buggy to the exit. I felt so sorry for Jackie with her crutches as we had to walk so far, she had blisters on her hands. Then people were late back to the coach and the traffic was horrendous, at Medway services we were put on a feeder mini bus. What a long day.

I left at 7.15 in the morning and arrived back home at 8.30pm!! Never again! I was messaging Rhys as I was sitting on the coach in traffic and he suggested next time we take a taxi, probably cheaper as Rhys will drop you exactly where you want to go and collect you when you phone! That sounds a much better idea.

I had very few photos as once inside the gates we weren’t allowed to take photos.

Another hot day so we were out dog walking early.

I went to Westwood as there were a few things we need to take to Cyprus for our next visit.

Rhys hasn’t been at all well with flu and now he has been to the doctors and has a severe chest infection. Get well soon Rhys.

An early morning walk through the orchards.They have just begun picking the apples but so many left on the ground and some on the trees not quite ready. We have watched them picking before and they know exactly what size they should be picking which is why so many end up on the ground. Nice pickings for breakfast as long as you check there are no insects in them!

Ellie does like her roll on the grass and of course the rabbits have been there.

We also went to the allotment and collected french beans, spinach, loganberries, raspberries and apples! Delicious. Mal is giving up the Wingham allotment as very little grows there and what does, the rabbits eat! He has enough to do at the Preston one.

When we were home she had a couple of fleas on her. We sprayed the whole house with Staykill before we went away and also Ellie was treated with Advantage which seems the only thing to work this year. More hot weather forecast in the coming week, that won’t improve the flea situation. So we bathed her in flea shampoo and sprayed some more Staykill!! This really is a battle this year. Her bedding has been boiled too.

We spent the afternoon in the garden enjoying the sun.

We took Ellie for a walk around Ash. It’s another really lovely village a couple of miles from us. They even have gym equipment in the recreation park for the whole village to use and yes, we had a go on it!

We watched the Man U v Man City game in the afternoon, followed by the Spurs game!
