Time to leave Coghurst Hall. We had a lovely time and were extremely lucky with the weather. It was even drizzling a little as we took Ellie for her walk in the woods on site so it must be time to leave!  Today’s voucher was free tea for two , so we loaded the car up  and had our tea.

We had some good news on the way home. Karen has been misdiagnosed about her two strokes as she has no damage according to the scans. It was evidently a rare kind of migraine. That is a relief but not pleasant for her spending two days on a stroke ward.

It wasn’t far to drive home, it took about an hour and a half, then all the unpacking and then the washing! It was a nice break.

We will be conducting an excavation and release of hatchlings tonight so if you’d like to come along and watch them hopefully coming out of the nest and then see them start their journey into the sea tonight, come along and join us. Please meet at The Turtle Shack, Guzelyali Beach, Karsiyaka at 18:00. No need to book, everyone welcome. ????

Another hot day. Caravans do heat up and we are sensible (?!) enough to bring a fan heater with us that blows cold air. Yesterday in Hastings Mal went to get a parking ticket and a lady was staring at me as I was getting things out of the car and in the end I asked her if there was a problem. She said she was waiting to see if I “was going to leave my dog in the car”, She did apologise but I told her, I would do the same but why on earth did she imagine I would?!  All the car windows and doors were open and I was just about to get Ellie out!  Maybe she was checking out all the cars in the car park.

We drove to Brede Woods. There are in fact 6 woods and you can easily get lost in them but we managed to find our way back to the car. They were lovely and so peaceful and of course we met a lot of other dog walkers.  One of them told us her grandmother began the PDSA which in those days rescued all the strays.

We stopped off for lunch at The Robin Hood, Icklesham for a very average pub meal. From there we drove to Bexhill. The sun was out but it was sooo windy! We went for a long walk along the front. They had notices all along the front telling you which beaches you can take your dogs on. Useful.

In the evening we went to the clubhouse. Our voucher today was for a free pint of soft drink! I had diet cola. We sat outside with Ellie to avoid the bingo.

Torin called and now the hospital don’t know whether Karen has had a stroke as she had a scan and there is no damage. She is still in hospital and they are doing more tests.

We set off for Hastings Country Park after breakfast. Dog walkers rave about it and when we arrived there we discovered why. There are just miles and miles of land to let dogs run, play with others and have a good time. We walked and walked and it was a hot day again so made sure some of the walk was through woods and we had plenty  of water with us. After a very long walk, including along the coast we got chatting to a really nice young Latvian couple, of course the dogs were playing together. They were saying the rest of Europe  have no faith in the UK now because of Brexit and their families are now telling them to go back home..They have been here 6 years. It’s interesting hearing things from another perspective.  They told us how cheap housing and food were there, we should think about moving too!! I don’t think so!

The country park was amazing, fantastic views.

Then of course it was lunchtime. We always look up dog friendly pubs where ever we go but today’s priority was one with a garden, which just happened to be dog friendly anyway. It was the The Royal Oak at Pett. We found a nice shady table and had the most delicious baguettes and Mal was offered tasters of ALL their real ales. A very good pub with a lovely landlady. Where ever we go everyone makes such a fuss of Ellie. She just lies under the table but I have to say today she was quite tempted by the smell of smoked salmon in my baguette!

After lunch we drove into Hastings. It was such a lovely day, people were even swimming in the sea!

I think Ellie enjoys her holidays, she had some of my smoked salmon lunch time and then an ice cream. She loved it, Well, it was a very hot day.
In the evening we went across to the clubhouse. Today’s deal was a free glass of wine! The barman didn’t seem to know what he was doing and gave me a large one, it was only supposed to be a small one free! We sat out in the bar garden as it was such a lovely evening.

We wish Karen (Torin’s ex) well. Today she had a second stroke. She had one a couple of weeks ago with seemingly no after effects and has had another today and is in hospital. Torin was at his head office at Skipton, just about to go into a meeting when he received the phone call so had to drive all the way back home so that he could pick the twins up from school. Sometimes life can be very bumpy.

In the morning we went to Carr Taylor vineyard as it was only about 3 miles from where we were staying. You are allowed to take dogs there and you just pay £1.50 for a leaflet and do your own walking tour. We were chatting to Dave who does the guided tours and he told us to go and have a wander and he was waiting for a coach and he said he didn’t mind whether there were 40 or 42 people and suggested we join the coach party tour when it arrived and be part of the guided tour. How nice of him.   So, we had a long walk around the vineyard and when the coach arrived, joined in with them. It was a very interesting tour with a tasting at the end. One fact I did learn is that they use 1 kilo of grapes for a bottle of wine. Somehow I thought it would have taken more than that.

From here we drove to Battle and did a 5 mile walk which when we were half way round, we decided was a little stupid as it was so hot and humid!! We finished off in Battle Abbey where we have been many times before.

As English Heritage members we have free entry and only have to pay £1 for the car park instead of £4.50.

A bit of news that Rhys messaged us with. Mal was Head of Business at this school, they have a new head of school this year! They had to call the Police today!!

Ellie slept the entire evening, I think we wore her out.

We woke up to rain, well, that wasn’t forecast! We are off today on one of our little mini breaks with Ellie.

I walked Ellie as it was raining and met a guy from just down the road who has an 8 week old Jack Russell, so cute. He is trying to think of a name for him. Then Daisy, the dog who lives at Preston Court and roams all the fields, came rushing by with a dead rabbit in her mouth. I won’t describe what it looked like, pretty revolting! Ellie may have caught animals/birds in the past but she is very gentle with them and never kills them, thank goodness.  I guess Daisy was taking her trophy home.

We packed up the car and headed towards Hastings to a caravan park, Coghurst Hall. We haven’t been there before and it is another where dogs go free when we booked.

We arrived were given the key and unpacked the car. We then went for an explore around the park. There is a lake in the middle of the park and woods to the side where we went for a long walk with Ellie. They had given us some vouchers with our welcome pack and the days voucher was for a free pint so we ate in the caravan and then went to the clubhouse for a drink or two. No we didn’t join in the bingo, the Wales football game was more interesting!

A busy day, out walking Ellie early and then Marion, my sister, Marion and her daughter, Wendy and family arrived on their way home from holiday in Belgium. Lou and Rhys and the little ones came over too and we had a lovely barbecue. I was expecting the older boys to come too, so we had far too much food and I sent a lot of it home with Lou and Rhys! The Pimms was nice (use frozen raspberries instead of strawberries and ice!) and so was the food even if I say so myself.

The kids really enjoyed themselves.

Rhys then had to go off to work and Marion and co had to get home and we had a lovely afternoon and made it just before the rain started.

Of course I had to watch Strictly in the evening!
