Tuesday 17th July 2018

Another early morning walk with Ellie but it was much cooler.

We now have more staples and so covered the last dining room chair.

Mal went off to the allotment and brought back more goodies.

I went round to the town and looked in the charity shops. I am sure when you work in one, you become slightly addicted because they are such good value! In Age Concern they have some “bought in goods” and amongst those they had paddling pools. I looked online and everyone seems to be sold out, so that was lucky as we want one for Ellie.

We put it in the garden, filled it, before the possible hose pipe ban and then she just kept running up to it, two front paws in and then blew bubbles. She was always doing that in Cyprus in her water bowls. The idea is to cool her off, she has a very thick coat.

I was up walking Ellie at 5 am. She had been so hot through the night, so I knew it would have to be early. Even that seemed a bit of effort for her. It’s a bit like being back in Cyprus, dog walking at that hour.

Then off to Demelza. It was hot in the shop but we did quite well. I bought some nice John Lewis crockery and some cloth flowery bunting for the garden, Laura Ashley. I don’t think any of us go home with nothing!

Sol was running to jump in the pool the previous day at he BBQ and slipped and it has been confirmed today that he has broken his toe (and that was before the drink!)

Ellie had another early walk to avoid the heat and then lunchtime we went over to Lou and Rhys’s for the World Cup Final BBQ. We had a lovely afternoon, the older boys with their girlfriends. Tariq was home from Marines for the weekend as Rhys had found a car for him so he was collecting that too. Tris and Violet came for the afternoon from London as well. It was a lovely family day but I got quite emotional at the end because someone was missing. It was time to come home then.

I was still looking for bits and pieces for the garden and Mal wanted some beer to take the BBQ tomorrow, so I went to Westwood and then on to Petticoat Lane Emporium. I love the place. Yes, they did have a lot of garden ornaments but I didn’t fancy paying £100+!! It’s a strange place because some things are extremely overpriced and others are really good value. I could spend hours in there but found a coffee table I wanted , so bought it and left to go back another day! I know Mal would love rooting around in there too so we’ll go back together.

In the afternoon I flicked channels between the tennis and the football, whilst re-covering the dining room chairs! I didn’t have the strength to use the stapler, so Mal had to help and then we only had one chair left and ran out of staples!

Ellie and I were out early again as it was very humid. Later Mal and I went to Deal. We were looking for a heavy duty furniture stapler and found one in Machine Mart which was actually cheaper than Amazon for an identical one. There are nice shops in Deal and we sat awhile listening to the music, part of the Music and Arts Festival.

By this time we could only fit in 2 cups each of never ending coffee in Spoons!

On the way back we stopped at Felderland Farm for ‘Pick Your Own’. We ate a lot of raspberries but in the end decided to pick strawberries to use for a trifle on Sunday as we are all round to Rhys’s for a Cup Final BBQ. The older boys like Nanny’s trifle, the young ones don’t seem to, maybe something to do with the amount of Creme de Cassis I put in it!

I phoned Jean (Red hatters), she sounds really ill and they have given her a lot of pain killers, bless her.

Then I got completely engrossed in the semi final of Wimbledon- Anderson and Ismer. What a match 6 hours 36 minutes in the end! I am sure Anderson will be slightly worn out for the final on Sunday! Dinner was late!

Ellie and I were out early again. This morning she met her twin! Another retriever that was almost identical. Her owner and I couldn’t quite get over their likeness. They played chase all around one of the fields.

Mal started a second coat of wall paint. I cleaned windows as the gulls had messed on the kitchen window and over my car, so I cleaned the car as well! They are so noisy and mess all over the place, goodness only knows what they eat, well I know, anything they can grab hold of, including emptying all the bins and swooping down and getting anything anyone is eating!

Later I went round to the local shops and the Thursday market.

I took Ellie out early , we were out by the river before 6am. It really is lovely that time of the morning. Mal was still in bed when we arrived back home! But when he did get up he scrubbed the back wall and later started painting it. We only have a small garden so want to try and open it up. We have had the huge gardens and believe me it is HUGE work, so this along with all the countryside around us and the allotment is ample for us. We had a huge garden at our last place and always sat on the terrace just outside the french doors! Ellie is happy, we have what we call the dog park just opposite and she meets as many dogs as she wants over there every evening and has a run around with them.

So, he painted and I went out to lunch with the Hatters. We went to the Racing Greyhound in Ramsgate , the service was dreadful and so I suggested we stop going there and find alternative places. Sadly Jean didn’t come. She is 80+ and has terminal cancer but she has been an absolute rock to me since I lost Torin.

Her cancer has got far worse and she was unable to walk. It is the first Hatters meeting she has ever missed. Funnily enough last meeting she said how much she loved yellow roses. Two days ago I saw a lovely yellow rose plant and decided to buy it for her and take it along today, but she wasn’t there. I had just thought it would be much nicer for her to have roses now than when the inevitable happens. I came home in tears and it was a quiet meeting.

We watched the England game in the evening. So disappointing but they did well to get as far as they did. I do hate the criticism they are getting already.
