The weather was much cooler and so we decided to go to Minnis Bay to get a real breath of fresh air. In fact it was quite windy down there, so Ellie loved it.

Mal was at the allotment to collect more fruit and salad and then we went to Nando’s for Oscar’s 10th Birthday meal.  They were going to the cinema afterwards but Mal and I decided not to join them for that.  It was really nice being there with Oscar.

Back home and we watched the Belgium v France game. My team was Belgium, so I am now out of the family sweepstake!

A little chaotic in Sandwich as I left to go to Canterbury as they have closed the bridge for a week.

My Demelza day and Linda was back in the fold and doing very well after her op. It was hot in the shop but we had a fairly good day. There were a lot of French students coming in with their work sheets and asking us questions. Certainly testing my knowledge of Canterbury!

A continuation of the roses saga. Nothing from the company and so we contacted Paypal, they held the money in contention and now the firm have agreed to refund our money and are no longer asking for us to return the roses at our cost! For anyone reading this, it is always best to use Paypal or a credit card as they are then “jointly and severely liable”. Too many distance selling companies now care very little about their customers once they have your money.

I read this in a tiny space in Metro today. I am sure most people in the UK have no idea this is going on.

We took Ellie out early and came across notices about closing access to dogs, for example Gazen Salts Country park. I think people will be objecting as Sandwich is full of dogs.  We will have to make sure it is known that there is supposedly a consultation.  They do so many things like this, very quietly!

Ellie decided she was going to have a long run by the river. We took her out early so she wouldn’t get over heated!!

Late morning we headed for the George and Dragon to listen to their music and a glass of wine/pint of beer!

More bands playing in the street and Morris dancers.
Back home for a short while and then back again for more music and Thai dinner.

This was the last event of our weekend at The Crispin….

Ellie and I were up and out at 5.30 to avoid the heat. A lovely walk along the river and we even avoided getting dive bombed by the sea gull. I guess mum was looking for food because her babies were on their own.

We spent the morning at the Folk and Ale Festival. It was far too hot to take Ellie with us.

Back in time for the football!! We decided not to go to one of the pubs as they would have been packed. Well done once again England.

We went back to the festival after the football and decided that most of Sandwich were more than a little tipsy but in a nice way and everyone singing and dancing in the streets.

We went to the Red Cow first as their gig was out in the garden with the Midnight Crawlers. They also had a huge beer tent in the garden, so I tried the ciders.

Our final stop was The Crispin to listen to Rosie Horne.

What a busy day! At least now we can walk round the corner to all these events. Previously I had to drive here and then spend ages finding somewhere to park.

I went shopping before it was too hot. Mal spent the morning cleaning his shed out, well he started, it is a real mess where everything got pushed in there. He has sorted it but needs to sort out the many drawers.

I ordered two Blue Moon roses on line. They are quite unusual and highly scented, so one for me and a good idea, the other for Lou and Rhys’s wedding anniversary. I was so pleased with myself that it was something that would remind them of their 8th anniversary in the future. It took so long arriving but I was so pleased it came the day before their anniversary. I opened the very large box and they were mildew! I emailed the company straight away with photos. No reply!! I emailed again, not even an acknowledgement.  The following day I phoned them, they really are  not interested “Head office will contact you, usually in 4 days.” Mal spoke to them but a real couldn’t care less attitude. He then contacted their Marketing Manager. As of now…nothing so we are going to hold the payment in contention.

Instead I had to do a very rushed restaurant voucher for their wedding anniversary. Things don’t seem to be going too well for us, the meal was not good! I tried.

Mal went to water the allotment and I watched the Uruguay v France game.

Ollie has his “prom” at school this evening before he leaves primary. (Didn’t do any of this at age 11 in my day!) Here he is with his friends. They do look smart.

It was the start of Sandwich Folk and Ale weekend and so later we walked into the town. We went to The Admiral Owen first, for the first band. I don’t like that pub but Mal said give it another try. His first pint was rough and then he had another which was equally bad.

We then went to The Crispin Inn which has to be our favourite. The landlord has got to know us AND a round was £1 cheaper than the Admiral Owen. The Crispin I get a full size Fevertree tonic with my gin, the other a minute schweppes.  No competition, we should stick to what we know AND the band was better!

I went over to Lou and Rhys’s are they are still without Rhys’s car (taxi). The owner of the garage is working on it himself but Rhys has missed out on so much business.  Lou and I took the littlies to their school and dropped Ollie off at his new secondary school as he starts there in September and they ease them in gently these days . I went to Southgate County Grammar and was left to my own devices the first day to get buses from Palmer’s Green to Cockfosters.  I remember I got lost!! I was also the only one from my primary school who went there.

Six weeks later we moved and I had to start at another school, Cavendish in Hemel Hempstead. That was so much nicer and I have to say I loved it there.

Now, the kids go for three days before September! I don’t know how we ever coped in the “old days”!!

We picked them all up at the end of school and I think Ollie enjoyed it.

I came home and Mal was having a nightmare with a couple of his students. It seems the more intellectual (as in 1st degrees and Masters) they are, the less common sense they have. Maybe I hadn’t actually mentioned it previously but he teaches teachers online. It usually fits in to Mondays when I am at Demelza but this week it seems to have spilt over considerably!

Good news that Kyle Edmund is through to the next round at Wimbledon. It was an easy match for him. The next one won’t be as easy, he plays Djokovic.

Salutation Gardens are in Sandwich. It is a place we keep meaning to go and haven’t so we went in the morning. You pay your entry fee and if you like it, you can upgrade to an annual membership, which is what we did. It is about 8 minutes walk from our house and I am sure we will visit at different times of the year to see the flowers. You can also take dogs in, on leads, a bonus. We were talking to one of the gardeners and evidently the Head Gardener has this week won a Gold at Hampton Court Flower show. The different hidden gardens are really lovely and it is all very tranquil. I am sure we will visit often.

After a long walk round we went to the cafeteria for a coffee.
