Demelza day and it was HOT in the shop and customers coming in and complaining about too much sun!!` Some people are never happy I guess.

We had a good day and I managed to sell a wedding dress at 1/4 to 5! That boosted the sales. Even though it is a charity shop, we still have targets.

A very difficult day for me as it would have been Torin’s 46th birthday. I know in his latter years he didn’t enjoy his birthdays, as because of his depression he never knew how he would feel on the day. Mal and I understood this and so did whatever he wanted at the time but I do have some very happy memories of some of his birthdays.

Several times in the day I broke down but tried to hide it from the kids. Not the ideal time to have them! I did my best. Mal took them to the park in the morning. We all went until it became too hot for Ellie and so Ellie and I came home.

We then went to the Crispin for lunch. I think the boys like it there as much as we do, and so nice sitting by the river.

From there we had a wander along the road and had a short walk around Salutation Gardens.

We then gave the boys the choice, either a seal spotting ride on the river or the carnival. They chose the carnival. So we spent at least an hour and a half watching the parade in Ramsgate.

Thirsty work all that standing in the sun, so we went into Spoons to cool off and have a drink and then a stroll on the beach.

Back home for tea eventually and they collected all their things together and we took them home. Rhys had just finished working.

Late at night we took a bouquet of flowers down to Minnis Bay, where Torin loved to go with us. It was a lovely evening, the sun had gone down, high tide and so we floated the flowers on the sea.

We took Ellie for her walk at Gazen Salts, the nature reserve. Dover District Council are trying to ban dogs from going in here. I can understand dogs on leads but not banning them!  On their literature it says dogs are banned but this is actually people just saying this and there is no law.  There is consultation going on at the moment and most dog owners that know anything about it are up in arms. Gazen Salts has been flooded and so now they are trying to get it back to normal. There is a lot of work needs doing. Mal said he would be interested in helping and even putting signs up naming plants etc BUT if they ban dogs he said he won’t be in the slightest bit interested!! We wait to see whether those at the top get their own way.

In the afternoon we collected Ollie and Oscar as Lou and Josie are going to see Little Mix tomorrow, Rhys is busy with the Whitstable Oyster Festival, so they are staying with us until tomorrow night.  We thought of taking them camping for a couple of days but they have to be at school on Monday and most places we thought of going are fully booked because of the Oyster Festival. So, Mal took them to the allotment to do some fruit picking for tea! They then had a game of football in the field opposite.

After we had eaten in the garden, the boys did some rock painting, that got a little bit messy!

We then discovered that they had never watched Gremlins and guessed their dad probably watched it at about their age, so we put that on and they loved it and now want to watch Gremlins 2!!

Ellie and I were out early again but it wasn’t as hot. I talk to so many other dog walkers and this morning there was a lady with a dog I didn’t recognise and so asked her what it was. His name was Enzo and he was a Lagotta Romagnolo  , evidently an Italian water dog. Very cute but originally a working dog, so very active.

I went to Westwood shopping and bought a nice small bird bath for the garden. They have an extensive range of garden things in TKMaxx.  I am not quite sure why I am encouraging the birds into the garden as I discovered they are eating all my basil!

By the time I arrived home it was raining, but very little.

We have been trying to get hold of our water supplier…to pay a bill ! They are not easy to speak to. Eventually Mal succeeded only to discover we have a water meter. No problem, we are used to using water frugally after all those years in Cyprus.

Mal painted a bit more in the garden. It will get finished eventually, I guess no rush. I went to buy some mint plants in Wingham. They had ginger, chocolate, apple, lime and many other flavour mints that I have never heard of before.  I thought the lime would be nice for Pimms.

I have a lot of passion flowers in the garden. They used to grow like weeds in Cyprus and was quite surprised that they have grown really well here too.

Mal went to the allotment to get our vegetables for dinner and look what he found on the raspberries.

In the evening I watched The Greatest Showman, Mal put his headphones on and watched something else!!

We took Ellie to Minnis Bay to cool her off in the sea. The tide was a long way out. We went in paddling too, the sea was so warm!

In the afternoon Mal went to the allotment to do some planting and watering.
