We ordered a load of beer for the Village Society party on Saturday and did Click and Collect at Tesco. So we had it all planned, down to Minnis Bay early and then back to Tesco before 10 am to collect the beer. Rhys called and they are both supposed to be joining us this evening to go and see Chas and Dave. They both have a sickness bug and so can’t go. Then we heard Mal’s son Dominic’s fiance is losing her job and unlikely she will get paid this month. All this delayed us so we had to go straight to Tesco and Ellie’s Minnis Bay walk would be afterwards. We collected the beer, started my car nothing! At least the kind fellas at Tesco tried pushing it, probably to move me out of the way but nothing. Next time I tried starting it, all the electrics went haywire, including the wipers moving. Nothing else for it, we rang the breakdown. So, at least we were at Tesco, a loo, coffee and a shop!!
The breakdown man arrived and after he jump started it and ran it for 15 minutes, he tested the battery and said the battery needed replacing. We were not far from Halfords and so he followed me over there, said he would go in with us as he receives 20% discount at Halfords and also that he would fit it for us!! What a nice man. So, £34.99 for a new battery, far less than we were expecting.
By this time we were slightly losing the will to live so came home and had a cup of tea. Poor Ellie had been so patient waiting in the car, I said I would take her over the fields. She was really good, having a long run. Quite a long walk and then as I turned round to call her she was rolling in some manure on the fields. She was covered. Back home and straight in the bath. It was in her eyes, ears everywhere. She stank! Then of course I had to clean all the bathroom. Not quite the day we planned.
Things really picked up in the evening! We arrived at the Winter Gardens early in the hopes we could sell Lou and Rhys’s tickets for them. The theatre said they “didn’t have the facility to resell them”. So we stood by the box office trying to sell them. Then one of the women there had a real go at Mal and made him move away. So we went outside but everyone had tickets. Just before it began we gave up. So, two spare seats at the table right at the front! As usual they were fantastic. What more can I say, it is like being at an east end party. They sang “Dahn to Margit” in the first half and then again in the second half. Chas had a huge grin on his face because everyone joined in with all the old favourites, Vic Reeves was also there, a couple of tables away from us, having fun, up and dancing (quite p***ed!) Margate must be the best reception they have. Brilliant night.
I think we are making up for the lack of decent live entertainment in Cyprus!
