At last the contractor came to repair the front gate and also the toilet. We have waited 6 months for the gate to be fixed.

Mal waited in and I went and bought the final Christmas present (I think) and also some more Christmas decorations as  they are all half price in Range! It took all my energy as Mal and I both have colds now and taking Barocca to keep our vitamin levels up. Actually it is not Barocca but Tesco version as that one contains zinc and you have to keep your zinc intake up! We also have loads of garlic.

Back in the land of the living. I still have pain and still taking pain killers but at least it is improving and I have caught up on some sleep. It is so muddy immediately around us so we took Ellie to Minnis Bay. Only a short walk as neither of us felt brilliant. Mal now has a hacking cough and sore throat!

We did however get our act together to go to the Village Society Christmas Dinner in the evening. I went armed with tablets and couldn’t eat the Christmas pudding or brandy cream (no alcohol). Three people didn’t turn up and Josie came and was coughing and spluttering all night!  At least Mal and I made it and it was quite a select cosy group. I just wish I could have enjoyed the food more. But we had some nice Secret Santa presents. It shows I am not very together, I didn’t take my camera!

Another awful night of pain and not much sleep so Mal took Ellie out on his own as I was just so tired.

A walk in Minnis Bay with Ellie.

I was dosed up with pain killers but they were starting to lose effect.Next problem to find an NHS dentist, not an easy thing in this area. We used to go to a private one but he now runs some sort of monthly payment scheme which we didn’t quite understand and he is now sooo expensive.

Eventually Mal managed to find a practice that would take us. A bit if a joke that Private ones would take us if we were on benefits but as we are not,then they won’t!  I am feeling a bit lost at how the UK runs any more! So, a Dental Practice about 7 miles away would take us on and a dentist would see me in the afternoon. I think we may have been accepted because the Practice Manager is the daughter of one of Mal’s colleagues from his old college!

The dentist confirmed I had infected gum pockets around my back tooth and wrote me a prescription for antibiotics. He checked all my other teeth and took 4 X rays. The total cost £18.80……far cheaper than going to Ipek in Cyprus. I am now juggling paracetomol/ibuprofen/codeine and antibiotics. I have a list of what I can take when or it gets too confusing and even so, I was awake most of the night! Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon as I am really no good with this sort of pain.

The downside of the antibiotics….no alcohol for the 7 days I am taking them and also for 48 hours after the last tablet. Unfortunate that tomorrow we have booked into the Blazing Donkey Hotel, which means I wouldn’t be driving so I could have a drink. Wednesday is our Village Society Christmas Dinner which we could walk to and again I would be able to have a glass of wine or two….not now! Might just make it for Christmas.

We had a wet walk with Ellie, at least it wasn’t too bad in the woods.

We placed an order with Ocado as I decided we have far too much shopping to carry on the build up to Christmas. We have never used them before and I have to say we are more than impressed. Mal had previously ordered some Jura whiskey for us to collect from Tesco. They put another whiskey in as they had run out. Mal refused it, so we added it to the Ocado order and it was cheaper! The delivery driver was so nice too AND they take their carrier bags back and refund your 5p for every one! You choose a time slot and they text you when they are on their way. We have tried home deliveries before without too much success, eg fresh foods near their sell by date, not with Ocada, they even put the produce dates on their invoices with the shortest date at the top! It seems they have thought of everything.

After lunch we went to Theatre Royal, Margate to meet Lou, Ollie, Oscar and Josie and to watch the panto Aladdin. It was so funny, it is only the second performance and they made a few mistakes and the cast couldn’t stop laughing. It made it much more fun. The kids loved it, well so did we…..oh no we didn’t etc etc!!

We then drove to Birchington and had fish and chips. It is so good down there.BUT I had been suffering with pain in my face and taking pain killers. I don’t know whether it is a tooth or neuralgia but it kept me awake a lot of the night.

For anyone like me that loves Christian Dior Perfume, Allbeauty (click on link above) have offers on just for today. I love Dioressence and it is quite hard to find in shops. Hints have been duly dropped, just in time for Christmas…ha ha!!

We walked around different orchards today. Quite a shock to see blossom on some of the trees and this is December. I know Kent is warmer than a lot of the rest of the country but that is unusual. We were also surprised at the amount of apples just left and surprising anyone hasn’t been collecting them and making cider! Had we known earlier……………………!!

In the evening we had our Village Society Christmas party, the children’s one first from 6.30 – 8.30  but a lot of them stayed much later as they were having so much fun. Lou, Ollie Oscar and Josie came over. Mal was Father Christmas…ho ho ho! The kids loved it because there was a disco, free food/candy floss/popcorn. They also all had a present from Father Christmas and competitions in between. Evidently Oscar said it was the best party he had ever been to! Josie and Oscar were up dancing most of the night!! It’s so nice to be in such a friendly village and we are pleased we joined the Village Society.

We went to Minnis Bay because Ellie missed out on her seaside walk yesterday plus we love it down there. It was colder than it has been with quite a wind.

Josie from the Village Society came round in the afternoon to bring the Father Christmas outfit for Mal for the children’s village party tomorrow. They have bought a new one for him! In fact when he tried it on, it quite suited him!
