Nice and sunny and so we went to Kearsney. Ellie seems to enjoy going in the water again now.

A coffee sitting outside the cafe and a quick stop in Lidl to buy a large Argyranthemum plant.

Mal had to water the allotment in the afternoon and brought back the second lot of asparagus,  some broccoli and rhubarb.

What a surprise in the evening, Hammers won their game 4-0!!!!

Thursday 9th April 2026

I had an appointment with Periodontal in Faversham. not the best thing to do on a lovely sunny day.

On my last visit he said he would just check the tooth he told me to have extracted had gone and healed, then go through the pre op he was going to do and book a date.  When I went in he started by telling me that they no longer had the funding to carry out the operations in Faversham and he would have to refer me elsewhere. So, I had no need to have the other tooth extracted, I could have just waited until it worked itself loose!!

So today he spent an  hour measuring all my teeth and where they were in my gums. This took over an hour and in spite of taking pain killers before I went (just in case), it was really painful and my mouth bled a lot. I really wasn’t happy because this is not what he told me would happen today.  He then took two X rays and made a lot of notes.

When he finished all this …an hour and a quarter in the chair, I asked where we go from here. He told me to make two appointments for deep cleans and see if the gums then improved or whether he would refer me then!!! So the first appointment is September. I guess by the time that arrives, they will have stopped doing them as well!

I also warned him that I had a mouth ulcer. He asked me if I often had them. Yes, I do. He then told me I should have a blood test but they don’t have the facilities so I should ask my dentist to refer me to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  Erm…..isn’t this where I started all those years ago?!!  Handy I am back to my dentist in Canterbury next week I guess!!

After the pain killers wore off, my mouth was so sore.  I have to say the treatment has really gone downhill from when I first started.

Wednesday 8th April 2026

Over the fields with Ellie but she didn’t seem too keen. We are certain that people were feeding her at the BBQ and some of the food was spicy. Mal painted the garden wall. I asked him 2 weeks if he had the paint for when there was a nice day. Of course he said yes, come to the day and he didn’t have any….MEN!!! I wasn’t happy as I then had to drive to Westwood Cross to get some. I put some diesel in the car on the way……£196.9 a litre!!  Wow.

Mal did get round to painting the wall!

Ellie still seemed very quiet and had a lot of wind and a swollen stomach.  When Mal carried her up to bed at night she wouldn’t settle just kept going from one side of the bed to the other and kept staring at me. Eventually she barked. Mal took her downstairs and I think she emptied her bowels out in the garden. That’s one thing about Ellie she is such a clean dog, even at her age, she has to go outside on grass. Mal then decided he would sleep downstairs with her in case she needed to go again. But she slept soundly all night.

Rhys’s Birthday!

We walked over the fields with Ellie, she didn’t seem too energetic. We also watered Torin’s flowers and rose trees on the way.

At lunchtime we drove to Rhys’s for his birthday and Ollie leaving for his new job with Rick Stein BBQ.  Lou’s dad and step mum were there also (little)Torin , Lizzy and our great grandson Arlo. Also Maddie and River and of course Ollie, Oscar and Josie. May favourite photo…Rhys, “little” Torin and Arlo.

We had such a lovely day and were so lucky with the weather. It was nice to see Ollie so excited about his new venture in Cornwall working with Rick Stein.

Monday 6th April 2026

Another nice sunny day and so we walked along the sea front in Deal.

We then went to the Captain’s Garden at Deal Castle as it was their open day and we haven’t been there before.  It wasn’t as exciting as we imagined. We thought it would be a thriving community garden. It appeared a lot of wasted space. They did however have some beehives there and we bought some of their honey.

We also discovered all about Deal Community Hop Farm. A few hops here, then people have others in their gardens/allotments and then all come together when it is time to collect the hops and they then send them to a brewery. We had thought they would brew it themselves but no!

Also tea and cakes for a donation and I was given some Cerinthe seeds, which are supposed to be very attractive to bees.

And then there was the “band”..

By the time we left Deal was so busy……a sunny Bank Holiday by the seaside! The rest of the day in the garden.

Sunday 5th April 2026

Not quite so sunny first thing but down to the Viking Ship as the cafe has just opened for the season. The Viking Ship overlooks Sandwich Bay.

The ‘Viking Ship’ Hugin – on permanent display on the Pegwell Bay cliff top at Ramsgate is a replica Viking Longship. It sailed from Denmark to Thanet in 1949. This was to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of the A.D. 449 landing of Anglo-Saxon chieftains Hengist and Horsa at Ebbsfleet, and the betrothal of Hengist’s daughter, Rowena, to King Vortigen of Kent.

Of course after the walk we stopped for a coffee.

I planted some cherry tomato seeds before we went away, as there was just an odd tomato or two in the fridge.  By the time we returned they had all shot up so I transplanted them and at last found some Piccolo tomatoes in Lidl of all places. All the other supermarkets have gone over to Piccolata, probably with no one except me noticing. I found some and so used one of the tomatoes seeds for some more. I end up with far too many plants but we do eat a lot!!

Mal decided as it was Easter we had to have a leg of lamb and so he is cooking it! A slow roast for 5 hours, so in between he went to water the allotment.

What a shame that Hammers lost their game on penalties.

Saturday 4th April 2026

We decided we would actually walk around Sandwich and go to the Easter Saturday market. Six stalls and that was it! Not as magnificent as we expected. I did have a wander round the shops while Mal sat in the churchyard with Ellie.

We then went into Teaport which is somewhere we have been meaning to go to for quite some time. The waiter was so nice , from Hong Kong.  Mal had coffee and I had the hot Ginger drink and it was delicious.

Ellie was spoilt with dog treats and a bowl of water.

There are a lot of new signs going up around Sandwich to encourage tourists!

What a shame Arsenal lost their game to Southampton …yes, a touch of sarcasm there!
