Ellie woke me early and she obviously had a bad tummy. I decided to stay up and go for an early morning walk. It was lovely and so very peaceful and on the way back Ellie and I watched the ducklings, she just sat by my side while I took photos. One of the ducks has two ducklings and the other has 6. I just hope the sea gulls don’t take them as they so often do, now more than ever if there are no chips around!

Mal went off to the allotment to make room for and plant the remaining potatoes. I stayed home, I know he likes a good old gossip with the men down there, a few of them are not used to women invading their space!

I asked Mal to get some fresh flowers and lemons at the Co op. They had neither! The flowers were for Torin at the cemetery as the others were dying, so I took some silk flowers round there instead. I also took some Easter decorations. I am sure he is looking down and laughing at me!

This morning’s jobs at the allotment, planting more potatoes, weeding and of course watering.  We didn’t stay too long as Ellie was getting hot. We will have to organise some sort of cover for her when summer really hits.

We had a letter from Ollie, Oscar and Josie and inside they had coloured and sent us a rainbow in support of the NHS, to put in our window. Bless them!

We stayed in the garden all afternoon.

Rhys’s birthday. They are having a BBQ and we can’t go. 🙁

We went to the allotment , I was weeding and Mal planted more potatoes. One of the old men who lives on his own had a long distance chat with us. He had been there since 8am. The allotment is a godsend for so many who live on their own and are self isolating.

In the afternoon we decided to surprise Rhys and have a “window happy birthday” visit. I know we are supposed to stay in but we would only be in the car and then stand the opposite end of his front garden waving a birthday banner! He was really pleased to see us and we were happy to see him, it was important to me. It was just very sad not being able to hug any of them. We only stayed a very short while.

In the evening, a pink moon….

Not pink of course but because it “heralded the appearance of the moss pink.”

My niece and her husband both work for the NHS. Julie knows a lady who is making glass rainbows and she is giving 10% to the NHS. I have ordered two.

We spent a short while at the allotment, Mal making some frames for some of the vegetables.

Rhys’s theory is that shopping is easier at the beginning of the week.  I wanted to make sure that I had things I wanted in, ready for Easter, even if it is just the two of us, so I went off to Deal. I had to post the parcels that I couldn’t post on Saturday for the twins and Violet. At least now I know Scarlet and Jack will be sent their presents even if they are put in the bin by their mother. Who knows but we won’t give up. One day they will know.

I then went to the supermarket and had to queue for ages outside, which I found OK until I went inside and everyone seemed to be bunching up. I grabbed what I needed and left!

We took Ellie for a walk along the river and saw the first ducklings.

The rest of the day in the garden and I planted some more seeds.

We also bathed Ellie as it was a good day for her to dry naturally.

We walked to the Post Office having looked online for the opening hours. It was shut! We had the twins Easter eggs and also Violet’s egg and birthday present, all ready to post. We will have to wait until Monday. We walked back along the river as it was so quiet that way.

We continued on to the allotment, more digging and planting. Our blackbird was back again for more worms!

We spent the afternoon in the garden and then bet on the virtual Grand National. My horse came second but I backed it on the nose. Ah well, all the profits went to the NHS.

Mal and I went shopping. We planned to go to  Tesco or Sainsbury but when we saw the queues outside we decided against it and just bought the essentials in Iceland where there were no queues.  We then went to Range to buy Easter eggs and birthday cards. I tried for both of these online….Thorntons had stopped taking orders and Moonpig and Funky Pigeon had both stopped taking orders temporarily too!

In the afternoon we went to the allotment, having had another letter from the council saying a neighbouring home owner was complaining that we were causing rats in her garden!! This is the second time we have told them rats were there when Joe had the allotment. We are not stupid, we only take the regulation food waste down there and that is in closed bins. However, having bought a new compost bin and Rhys leaving his spare one down there for us this week, we set to moving the bins!  No rats, as we knew, no sign of ever being rats but we now have some nice soil by her fence to grow runner beans.

We had just finished and I even put bricks at the gap at the base of her fence to ensure they wouldn’t get through there. Well, then she came out shouting at us to get the bricks away etc etc! Silly old lady (probably just a couple of years older than us!) Mal is the wrong person to have a go at! He has a mixture of determination and sarcasm. He suggested it was the communal pile of horse manure that encouraged them and nothing to do with us. He told her we had just spent two hours moving our compost, so she could now complain to her hearts content to the town council. They incidentally are passing on this complaint to us, very “tongue in cheek”.  Chris on the neighbouring allotment said she is always complaining about something, is a miserable old woman and that there have been rats there for all the years he can remember! As he said we all go down there for a quiet afternoon and she starts!

In moving the compost heaps, we disturbed two slow worms, let’s hope they didn’t have eggs!

Whilst all this lockdown mayhem has been going on, the decision has been made to move our stroke services to Ashford, no demos nothing, because no one can! That was a very crafty one. Let’s hope we don’t have a stroke because we will be dead by the time we get to Ashford.
