We took Ellie for her walk in the sun. It was a long walk as we were going out.

We went to Howletts as for my birthday, one of my presents from Mal was an experience with animals of my choice. It was difficult to choose between Tigers or gorillas. Gorillas won.

I made sure that I booked it out of school holidays and I was very lucky as they usually group about 5 people together, I was on my own and had much longer than normal. So much information from the keeper who took me around. You could tell he adores each one that he looks after. I was so engrossed I took very few photos but it was so good. I heard many stories of how strong the gorillas are and was warned to keep my hands away from their hands which are huge when you are up that close! They have one gorilla I have never seen before. She doesn’t fit into any of the groups. She was “rescued” from a flat in Paris, wasn’t fed properly, didn’t develop social skills and as she grew bigger and more lively , the owner gave her valium. How cruel. She is now kept in her own space. We did give her peanuts, she just opened her mouth and we dropped them in. We fed the gorillas up on the roof above them. I remember seeing John Aspinall in the same place about 25 years ago! I didn’t think I would be up there feeding them one day.

I loved the experience. Torin was mad on gorillas and he would have loved this.

We walked Ellie and later I met up with the Red Hat ladies for lunch at Lesters. Our group is getting bigger, two more new ladies today.

Somehow Julie locked herself in the loo and then later knocked her coffee everywhere, not her day but it was her birthday the previous day and so we all had birthday cake!

I am still getting pain from my mouth following my visit to William Harvey hospital, maxillofacial and frequently taking pain killers. I happened to say at the lunch today and Julie had a similar experience at the same place, same consultant. I have made the decision that I won’t be going back so sent an email to my dentist.

We took Ellie out and then Mal chopped down my huge sunflowers in the garden. They were so thick and strong. He still has to try and dig the rest out of the soil. I think it will take half the garden with them!

I made a photo book for Lee, Torin’s best friend. He received it and sent me such a lovely message thanking me and telling me stories behind some of the pictures. It was lovely hearing them. He really was Torin’s best friend and is still so upset and misses him. It was very hard for me to do but well worth the appreciation from Lee.

Later Mal brought some winter things down from the loft. I have started sifting to take to Demelza!

In the evening we watched ‘Blinded by the Light’.

Mal took Ellie out in the rain whilst I prepared a roast for Lou, Rhys and the kids. Rhys’s car is in the garage so they are borrowing mine but it did mean that Rhys was able to come for lunch and it was nice to see him.

Mal and I walked Ellie while Paula was packing.

She caught the 12.30 train back home. I took her to the station and then went home to watch Spurs. Not a good game from the outset.

I then had to go shopping. I hate going on Saturdays and usually avoid it, it is just so manic.

I was home in time for the Hammers game.

My sister sent me an outside floral display. It should have looked lovely but half the plants had fallen out in the box with most of the soil. The soil had never been watered as it just looked like a load of plug plants. The delivery man had just left it outside when Mal had been in all day. Apart from all that it was delivered 2 weeks early!! I messaged my sister who is on holiday in America and asked if I have complained. So, now I will have to sort that out with Marks & Spencer.
