A year ago today….

It was a difficult day, a year since we lost Torin and the day we decided to have the interment of his ashes. We have the ashes placed in the cemetery which is literally three minutes walk from our front door. It is a lovely well kept cemetery.  We arranged it with the council for 11am and everything was ready. Because Torin’s ex has shut us off from the twins, I decided the only people to be there were Lou, Rhys, Mal and I. It would have been nice to have them there but she made that impossible. Now when they are older and she doesn’t decide everything for them they will have somewhere to come if they wish. I also placed a photo of Torin with Scarlet and Jack into the grave. Not easy.

Afterwards the four of us went to The Crispin for lunch and decided we will do this every year on the anniversary. My mum always had a Guiness a day and so we all drank Guiness at her funeral. So, I decided that as we all like Guiness we would all do the same yesterday in  the Daniel tradition!

We had so many messages and also flowers, so thank you to everyone.

We can’t believe the weather and so again made the most of it and took Ellie to Minnis Bay. It was really warm and so few people down there, only dog walkers.

More runner beans from the allotment and then in the evening Mal went to his “Old Geezers” at the Crispin.

Just a snippet of what last night’s performance was like…

Demelza day. Jack wasn’t well and so wasn’t able to come into work but I’m pleased to say we were quite busy. He will be pleased with the takings.

I managed to find a few fancy dress things for Ollie, Oscar and Josie for Halloween in the shop, also a brand new door curtain that I know Lou was looking for.

Back home Mal cooked dinner, Ellie played with her new teddy!

We met Lou, Ollie, Oscar and Josie at the zoo. We took a picnic and had a really nice day in spite of he forecast saying it was going to rain……it didn’t! Arina, the tiger was just chillin. The Southern Cheetah had some human company with it, I am guessing one of Damien’s daughters. We spent a long while watching the gorillas as they had loads of new straw everywhere and so they were doing a lot of play fighting and throwing the straw over each other.

We had a picnic lunch while we were there. It still hadn’t rained when we arrived home!

In the evening Mal and I went to Margate’s Theatre Royal to see Steeleye Span. It started me thinking it was actually 48 years since the first time I went to see them and I have seen them many times since. The last time we went they performed some Wintersmith themed music. Tonight it was from “Dodgy Bastards” and was so much better. The band now has some brilliant musicians and singers. As Maddy (lead singer) explained, some of the band has been replaced some 40 years later by ex band members children!  Of course they finished the evening with the “Hat” song!! I can’t wait for their 50th anniversary tour next year. I think the band has much improved since last time we saw them.

I can’t believe how beautiful the weather is, so it was off to Minnis Bay, where we haven’t been for a while. So much dog walking beach now the summer restrictions have been lifted. Ellie loves it and even found a friend. It was amusing because the other Goldie was way down below on the beach, saw Ellie and that was it, she left her owner and came to see Ellie!

At the end of the walk we bought a coffee from “The Bay” and sat outside enjoying the sunshine. Coffee there is an unbelievable £1 a mug. A sure thing the tourists have left!

We wandered around the shops in Birchington. I always go into one particular charity shop there and found a couple of really good things including a very soft large teddy for Ellie. I think now she has about 6 scattered around the house. She just carries them around and throws them around a bit.

At home we had lunch in the garden.

I went shopping to buy some jeans, not an easy thing nowadays with all the different fittings, high rise, medium, low rise and that is without what type of legs or the length! I did manage to find a pair. Next thing, some greetings cards, not easy either as they are all squashed together to make way for Christmas cards!

I am also fed up with non stick coming off roasting trays and so today I bought one in Tesco with a 20 year guarantee. Of course I would have lost the receipt in 20 years time BUT when I arrived home and peeled off the label, the guarantee conditions were on the back. It more or less said that it didn’t cover normal wear and tear! WHAT?!   Mal has contacted Tesco with a very sarcastic message! Perhaps I am becoming a Mrs Bouquet!

Mal went to the allotment and picked a lot more runner beans.

Another warm day and so a nice walk with Ellie. Then I went off to Westwood for my once a week meet with Rhys. It does us both good to get a bit off our chests that perhaps other people don’t quite understand in the same way.

I had a Groupon voucher for Frankie and Benny’s . We hadn’t been there before, so it is a good way of sampling what they have. It’s a good deal through Groupon but I don’t think I would pay full price for what we had. Rhys enjoying his ribs!
