Wednesday 24th October 2018

So, Ollie, Oscar and Josie came to stay. We went off to the zoo, we all love it there, so it really doesn’t matter how many times we go. It was National Gibbon day today and so we listened to the talk all about them. The kids also did the quiz as we walked round, hoping they would win a keeper for the day.

They have won it before at the sister zoo Port Lympne and obviously really enjoyed it.

We also listened to the Tiger Talk by Arina’s cage. It is always different depending on which keeper does the talk. I did ask at the end, if any of the keepers still go in with Arina. Evidently the head keeper and also Damian (Aspinall). They said she shows no signs of aggression at all. Because of her brittle bone and being rather weak, they haven’t been able to find a suitable companion for her and she does love to play with Damian. We only had a quick glimpse of her today, as she was sleeping most of the time, right at the back of her cage.

We had a lovely day.

Tuesday 23rd October 2018

We took Ellie out and then waited for Violet and Tris to arrive, they missed their train!

When they did arrive we went off to Howletts and had a picnic there.

As usual I watched Arina (Siberian Tiger) for a long time. She is just so lovely.

After the zoo, back to Sandwich and fish and chips by the quay.

Tris and Violet then caught the train back to London.

Monday 22nd October 2018

A day at Demelza. We had another very good Monday.

There is a War Horse in the grounds of the Cathedral , which I would like to go and see but you have to pay an entrance fee to get in there as it is in Cathedral grounds. Years ago when I worked in Canterbury I had a Cathedral pass and then realised that again I am working in the city and so I should be able to have another pass issued. Jack wrote a certification that I am volunteering there, so hopefully they will issue one to me. I have sent it off today.

This is the war horse.

Sunday 21st October 2018

Again we are making the most of our extended summer here in the south of England. Lou and Rhys and the kiddlies were coming round for lunch. Mal insisted it was warm enough to eat outside in the sun, so we did! He was right we ate out in the sun, in T shirts, no jumpers!

After our dinner we took the two dogs for a long walk.

We also went to the park and the kids were trying to catch leaves, Rhys told them it was lucky to catch one! Then of course Grandad took them to buy Unicone ice creams!

I hear they had enormous hail stones falling in Cyprus!

Saturday 20th October 2018

Well unsurprisingly NO evoucher from Asda. I looked on my Asda account, no it is not there either. What a great way to placate complaining customers! A very good trick, grind them down until they give up!

Perhaps I should shop in Iceland instead, after all they have goodies like this….

I have never tasted a Christmas tree and don’t intend to try.

We were going to the orchards with Ellie but instead I took a detour to Goodnestone. It was such a lovely day, so decided to go on the Serpentine Walk. What a shame I didn’t have my glasses with me (ha ha!)

I had Ellie off lead to start with and then she chased after a pheasant. She did come back before it entered her mouth, so she went back on the lead for a while as there were so many of them. Things became more obvious for the restrictions when we heard non stop shooting. Obviously out to get the pheasants. We just stayed away from the guns. There were a lot of interesting mushrooms in the woods.

I watched the Chelsea v Man U game. Chelsea equalised in the last seconds. Rhys supports Man U and Torin supported Chelsea. I had a message from Rhys to say Torin would be laughing his socks off. I am sure he will! Then a win by Spurs much to Mal’s disappointment as he is a Hammers supporter!

Friday 19th October 2018

I had a “click and collect” order at Asda so I went to Westwood to collect it. Along with this order was a Scoville stock pot. I ordered the Scoville because they are such good pans and never stick. I queued 20 minutes in the car by click and collect. When it was my turn in the queue the man came out and as I was loading things into the car he told me that they had a substitute item which was of course the stock pot. I told him I didn’t want a substitute, it was the Scoville one I wanted. He said that’s OK, we’ll refund the money, he took the alternative pan and went to walk away. I told him I had no proof I hadn’t accepted the pan so I was going nowhere. In the end he signed my order sheet saying I had not accepted it.  I then went into the store to ask the Manager why, when I ordered it 3 days ago no one had told me it wasn’t in stock when I had paid for it. He said it was nothing to do with him, the click and collect was done elsewhere. I also said Surely I should get something to say I had refused the other pan and therefore needed a refund, as I had no proof. He really wasn’t bothered.

While I was in the store, I thought I may as well get another couple of bits. In the homeware section, guess what they had SIX of the Scoville stock pots!!! Back to customer services and I asked to see the Manager again (Nigel Ward). I had the stockpot in my trolley and told him I would take it. He then told me a refund would be coming to me so I had to pay for it again!  I told him their customer service was not at all helpful and the fact they told me I had to wait 10 days for the refund to go through, diabolical.  I said I wouldn’t be shopping in his store again as I had found him most unhelpful and in fact he couldn’t care less, to which he replied “Your choice”.

In spite of the fact last week’s saga was the non stick roasting pan and the reply from Tesco was basically “if you don’t like the terms of the 20 year guarantee, it was nothing to do with them, then return it”, I wasn’t going to leave it there. As soon as I was home I phoned Asda head office. The first two people were useless but I did establish that all the goods were picked from the store (Nigel had lied to me, as I already knew!) I spent so long holding on that I eventually put the phone down and then called again asking for “complaints”. The customer service guy said he could deal with it, would send a full report to the Head Office Managers and also a copy to the store. He also said he would send me an evoucher for £5 for the inconvenience.  It seems there is one person at Asda who cares!

Mal’s answer to everything is order online…this is what happened when I did. Along with this we have about 9 months free Amazon Prime because they can’t deliver when they say it should be and each time they say “Have another free month.”

By this time I was exhausted!

Prior to collecting the order I did manage a couple more Christmas presents from M&S. They are giving gift receipts now that last until January, so that was good. Apart from that I am a Sparks member so everything is 20% off until Monday!

This was one of the bouquets of flowers I was sent on Wednesday, still looking good. These were delivered from our local florist in Sandwich, a great shop and everything is always very fresh.

Thursday 18th October 2018

Another warm day and so another long walk with Ellie. We then left her at home and went to Homebase to buy some new lamps. The cashier told us the price and I said no that’s too much and showed them to her on their website so she amended the price.  Mal paid by card and it wasn’t until we got home we realised there was 15% off lighting and the price we had seen was with the 15% off so then she took another 15% off!! Well, her error not ours!

More runner beans from the allotment for dinner. They really are my favourite vegetable.

We have heard that Tariq has been asked to represent the marines at the Cenotaph in London on 11th November.
