Jack has been waiting to go to Howletts to see the baby gorilla. It was such a hot day and felt even more so walking around the zoo. We walked the entire zoo and had a very tired Scarlet by the end of it. She is on medication for her heart and it makes her drowsy some of the time. Today was one of those days! But Jack was the complete opposite having to look at every one of the animals and remembering things from last time we were there. It was a job keeping up with one and the other dragging behind! We decided to have “shade breaks” every now and again when Jack could tell us all about the animals!! Of course we took a picnic lunch with us.

I think Scarlet must have been very tired. She slept until 9am! By this time Grandad and Jack had walked Ellie while I prepared a picnic for lunch (for 12 of us!!) Eventually Scarlet was awake and we went straight off to Stone Bay, where the cousins all got together and had a really good time. It’s a lovely beach and the older boys looked after the younger ones so that was a bonus!

I think I made about 6 attempts to take a photo of them all together. In the others at least one had their face covered or their back to me!! Only two grandchildren missing. One day I will have all 10 together!

We have been thinking about getting a beach hut, with all the “stuff” we carry down to the beach as you can see in the last photo. They are available at this beach and also Viking Bay. All the other beaches they have been taken. At least we had the boys to help us carry all the things we had taken.

Well, we ask the kids what they want to do each morning and after a long walk through the woods with Ellie, we returned to Wingham Wildlife Park. It is obviously their favourite place. A good thing we bought them annual passes. It’s not just the animals, there is a large play area and an indoors soft play. We also took a picnic lunch with us.

We will be conducting an excavation and release of hatchlings tonight. We have hatchlings from other nests, plus whatever is found in the nest tonight, so you’re guaranteed to see lots of them tonight start their journey into the sea tonight. Scarlet and Jack didn’t wake up until 8am! We had breakfast and then decided to go to Dumpton Gap beach as we could take Ellie there with us. Scarlet, Jack and Ellie had a great time running in and out of the water and digging in the sand and burying Ellie’s ball. She loves having the kids to play with.

In the afternoon they wanted to go back to the Wildlife Park, which we did and then on to grandad’s allotment to get some potatoes and raspberries for dinner.

We were up early, packed the car up and brought Scarlet and Jack back to Kent with us for a week. In fact we were home by 10am. We sorted their room out and then had a game of swingball and then off to Wingham Wildlife Park.

Back home, had our dinner and then watched The Secret Life of Pets which Jack said was the best film he had ever seen! Easily pleased!

A busy day and two very tired children went to bed that night!!

Torin went off to work very early so I took all three dogs for a long walk on the common and by the river. Ellie spent most of her time in the river!  I managed to finish the walk before the rain started. I also went to buy some food to cook for the evening.

Torin’s friend Lisa came round to see me in the afternoon and Mal caught the train back from Tewkesbury. Torin was late home from work as he had to complete a big job but we waited until he arrived before we had dinner. We also had Scarlet and Jack with us. It didn’t seem sensible to drive back to Kent on a Friday night.

It seems River has woken up at last and has achieved an A* in English and so he is off to Kent Uni. Well done River, better late then never!

I packed and then drove to Torin’s. The roads weren’t too bad except the traffic going in the opposite direction towards the coast and the continent.

Torin was home earlyish so he went off with all three dogs and his backpack (about 30kg). I stayed home as he really paces it out. The dogs came home exhausted. Ellie absolutely adores Torin as you can see.

Torin and I then went out to dinner at the local Indian. They all know Torin there and we get good service. The dogs weren’t worn out! Millie and Ellie get on so well together…….

They even take the tennis ball out of each others mouths!

It was a nice evening with Torin, not often we have a chance to be just the two of us.
