We had an early morning walk around the village. It’s nice and quiet early and we have all the dogs coming out to see us! There is a lovely little abandoned church in the village. It would be nice if it could be restored.

We went out for a drive and ended up at the Wild Duck. We had never been there before and so stopped for lunch. It was very pleasant, a little like a UK pub garden with plenty of things for young children to do and also a secure gate so they can’t escape. There weren’t any kids there during our visit.

Mal asked for a Latte and a Yedigun, he was given the Yedigun and having looked at the menu we also ordered chicken şiş and chips and liver and bacon. He was told these would be brought over to our table. Half hour later, when I had finished my yedigun, Mal went to ask what had happened to his coffee only to discover that none of our order had been given to the kitchen. OK apology accepted, we weren’t in a hurry although by this time Mal was dying of thirst! The food eventually arrived and was really good and fresh chips, not frozen. Each meal was 15tl. It was a nice place to sit and relax, with a few chickens running around.

When it was time to leave, Mal went to pay and we were charged 39tl instead of 37 and a half tl. Ok, he didn’t mention that it didn’t agree with the menu prices but he gave them a 100tl note and received change for 50tl!!
It was a real shame because we would have enjoyed it here……… had they not forgotten our order, charged us more than they should have done and then short changed us 50tl!!!

Mal and I were up early (no change there then) but today it was to take friends of ours to the airport. Failing health and I am afraid this is happening to more and more OAP’s here.  We were sorry to see them go.

On the way home we stopped at the Wednesday market, lovely fresh vegetables there. We also bought Cyprus Today.

A bit of pottering around the garden in the afternoon.

Mal has been contacted by the exam board, firstly to write part of the A level Business paper and secondly to join an advisory panel. Maybe if he was in the UK but with all the travelling backwards and forwards, it’s not worth it. It’s not exactly as though he needs it to look good on his CV….been there done all that and owns several of the T shirts.

Somewhere we haven’t been for a while, so decided to go today…Green Heights Park, Yeşiltepe. It’s so relaxing up there, have a wander round, sit amongst the flowers or by the pool and have a drink listening to the very relaxing music and entrance is free. A nice waiter too who brought our drinks to the table.  This time of year there are not many visitors.

Home in Cyprus for Sale

I did some ironing and then my clothes airer that I had put everything on, just collapsed. Another one beyond repair, two of the joins had broken. Of course it is plastic and has just crumbled in the sun. So, we went out to buy another, probably about the sixth one I have had here! I have tried the metal ones but when they get older, they sometimes mark the clothes.

Later we phoned Sol and Tariq as they are on two weeks half term. Their school is but River’s and the little ones are all at school this week. Very confusing. Tariq’s football team had their first loss of the season and sounds as though they did it in style….they lost 5-0!!

Mal finished off the bottom of the drive. I cleaned out cupboards. Exciting life we lead!! In the evening we caught up with Downton.

An early morning walk by the sea, time to get some sea air in my lungs! Very good it was too, with quite a breeze.

The builders who put our drive in decided in their wisdom to run a gulley along the bottom so that when the heavy rains come, the water would run through the gulley rather than flooding the road. It has never worked. Instead heavy lorries have driven over it until they have broken the metal grill on the top of it.  So, Mal decided it was time to fill it in and take the broken metal away. So, that was his days work!

Later we watched a very good Spurs game.

Mal and I went to get a gas refill and water refills. While we were there, I noticed that my rear tyre was flat. I put petrol in the car on Thursday and the attendant in there pumped all my tyres for me. Well, we limped to the tyre place in Alsancak. As he said when we arrived “new tyre”, yes it was fairly new. They took the tyre off and no it wasn’t the tyre but the air nozzle, (there is probably a technical name for that, oh yes, valve! I think the antibiotics have sent my head a bit funny.)  They took the whole thing apart, fitted a new one, tested it all while Mal and I had a fascinating conversation with one of the other guys about his tuned up Renault 9 and what good cars they are!! How much? An unbelievable 15tl (approx £4.70!!)  I so love my Renault 9!

We also bought Cyprus Today. The editor’s comments about traffic accidents are correct, the bad bend in Incesu, we had  an Incesu resident on the wrong side of the road, facing us, obviously hadn’t seen us as he seriously had a whole kebab and paper all over his face! The next one was a driver behind me, who I was watching in my rear view mirror as he was texting above his steering wheel with both hands and coming nearer and nearer to my boot until I just had to pull off the road to avoid the accident which was inevitable!! Driving standards here are horrific.

There is going to be an additional market at Lemar in Alsancak

We went to the Cabin for lunch with David and Kenny. Three of us had swordfish and Kenny ordered King Prawns. A lovely meal with good company. We hadn’t realised before it is a slightly different menu at lunchtime……no steaks on the lunchtime menu.

David and Kenny haven’t seen their neighbour since Thursday’s events, so have no idea why he was beaten up.

Later in the evening we watched the Hammers game….they lost.

It rained overnight. I can’t say I was surprised after all the winds yesterday. Of course this meant our seats under the terrace had kept a couple of cats dry! Two of the black cats appear to enjoy our hospitality. One is mum and the other one is from her previous lot of kittens, we think.

After 40 years, there is a lot of talk concerning the two sides of Cyprus joining together in some way. We will have to wait and watch this space!

There is a penumbral lunar eclipse tonight…………..
