Rain overnight, so the forecast was correct.  Mal will have to wait a few more days to start the outside painting. Instead we both went into the gardens for more weeding. More rain = More weeds! Still, it’s nice being outside and it’s keeping us sort of fit!

It was so lovely in the afternoon that we went for a long walk. The long walk is OK, the worst bit is walking back up our steep drive!

Tariq came on the web cam early evening. He has found himself a paper round, setting an example to his two older brothers!!

Mist everywhere first thing or was it more dust from Libya or some other place? I know cleaning the shutters was the days job and loads of brown muck coming off them. I did think it would be clean air living here! It was also very windy, so everything blowing indoors again.

So, Maggie Thatcher has died. I can’t believe how biased the BBC News is. I wonder who is actually running the BBC? Ha ha. The other news channels are far less biased Al Jazeera is reporting a very balanced view..Having worked in Social Housing a lot of my working life, my opinion is my own. Sell off the housing stock and ring fence the money. That was a joke. The poll tax, the winter of discontent? Quote from Al Jazeera “she was profoundly undemocratic”.  I’ll say no more.

Happy Birthday to Rhys!

We had no electricity when we woke up. Evidently the whole of the country was without power from 2am because of a mechanical failure at the Teknecik Power plant. It came back on at 7.30am

Mal and I went for a walk along the Lapta path. I guess because we were fairly early we only saw one other person down there. A gentle breeze from the sea….lovely.

We came back and Mal baked some delicious olive and cheese bread and I made a date cake. Mal’s dough is rising pretty quickly now the weather has warmed up.

Later we had all the Cardiff family on the web cam. They had lunch out at Viva Brazil restaurant for Rhys’s birthday, a non stop meat place! They were all full. We were watching the hammers game and they didn”t have it on, so we turned the web cam round so they could watch it long distance!

Another mornings walk in the mountains but I think we’ll have to start going earlier as it was really quite hot on the way back. More pine cones collected. We now have a huge wheelie bin full of them. The recent hurricane force winds have left cones strewn everywhere. Lots of BBQ’s!!

Cyprus Today, another 4tl wasted!

We listened to the Grand National on Five Live and just as it got to the exciting bit, they cut the station! But I bet each way on Oscar Time (because of our grandson Oscar), so I made a little money. Unusual for me, I am usually the kiss of death to any horse I back.

Of course in the evening we just had to have a BBQ!

It was a beautiful morning and so we went for a walk, pine cone collecting and wild flower spotting but being very careful to look for snakes. It was in April that Rosie was bitten by a snake.

Just a mention of Hak, the very good lawyer, he will be back working from 8th April. Our best wishes and prayers go to his wife who is still in hospital in Istanbul. More info

In the evening we went for dinner at Morelli in Karaoğlanoğlu and very good it was too, you can read the review.

We woke up to rain, just as they forecast, well they forecast storms actually but that may be later! That will save me watering the roses which were looking a bit limp. No storms and overnight was all the rain we had although it was fairly windy.

More weeding

Our breadmaker blew up last year and so today Mal decided he would make his own bread. Probably better than the bread maker as we frequently had power cuts in the middle of it! So, he left the bread rising while we went shopping. Cyprus Today, the old news, newspaper!  Mmm, what a lovely smell, fresh bread baking!

After such a lovely day yesterday, I don’t know where the sun has gone today, getting ready for tomorrow’s storm forecast? It did appear at lunchtime when we had lunch outside.

Mal went to the fruit trees to do some more weeding and then called me down to look at some weird “plants” in the undergrowth. They are parasitic cytinus (parasitic to the Cistus (rock rose) .

I really love this time of year with all our meals outside. Meanwhile my sister has gone on a caravan holiday with my niece and family. I guess they are shivering! I have asked her to come and stay with us but she doesn’t feel ready for that yet. It’s got to be strange, 43 years married and now she is on her own, bless her.
