We went down to Bamboo beach market. It is actually bigger than we first thought and evidently there are plans in the near future for a yachting place and restaurant. The lovely lady Jean had a stall down there. She painted a picture of Rosie which was so life like and a very reasonable price. We ordered a new number for the bottom of our drive (seeing as our address has changed!) and she said it will be ready for next Sunday.

We also bought a 5 litre box of Cape Elephant wine for 24tl (special offer, cheaper than the shops!) I should imagine as the weather gets better the market will grow in size and it is really handy for us.

We did have plans to have Sunday lunch out but Mal said he would rather come home (and play with his birthday presents!) and admitted he wasn’t too hungry after over indulging yesterday. We did have a slight delay on the way home (see the last picture).

The latest on the monetary problems in the south.

In the evening we watched Hammers get beaten, Mal was not pleased. We then spoke to River, Sol and Tariq. River had been paint balling all day with 7 of his friends. We bought him the voucher for his birthday. He loved it and they also get lunch includeed. The rest of his birthday money we have kept in lira for when he visits in the summer.

Happy Birthday today to my now Pensioner Husband! Happy Birthday Mal.

I had to laugh at Pauline’s entry on NCFP, with the photo of Agile’s posterior, the day our tap broke and he was drenched!

Mal opened his cards and presents and we had breakfast and then it was time for me to go to the dentist. Mal insisted on coming with me. Not the best place to spend your birthday! We bought Cyprus Today on the way back – so the Lapta fire was against the law…….are any of us surprised?!

I’m glad I don’t have any money in a bank in South Cyprus!

Margaretha took us out for lunch to the Courtyard Inn and very delicious it was too. I don’t know how we managed the deserts!! They arrived with a chorus of “Happy Birthday”. A lovely lunch, thank you Margaretha.

The rest of the day, Mal was playing with his “boys toys” that he received for his birthday and in between, phone calls and web cams and more and more Happy Birthday choruses from grand children.

David and Kenny came over for lunch which we ate outside. They brought their dog Jekka with them and we said she was fine running around the gardens. We were so busy chatting and then noticed Jekka was nowhere to be found. We made all our gardens dog proof when we had Rosie but we couldn’t find her and then discovered her running down the road! We are still at a loss to find how she managed to escape. Once she was back we had a lovely afternoon outside. Jekka sat in disgrace on her lead!

The sun was shining so we went off to Gűzelyalı beach for a walk. The fire is still burning in Lapta, I am sure it is not doing any of the local residents any good at all, particularly the ones who have asthma.

As we walked along the beach, just behind the beach there are now workmen’s huts and masses of huge piping, obviously for some sort of pipeline. Rather depressing with the fire and all that going on right next to the beach where the turtles nest. On the drive back we saw Gwen and stopped to have a chat. We both agreed, having come here over 10 years ago we saw the island at its best. Not any more. How sad.

On a much lighter note Happy Birthday to our grandson River who is 16 today. Now that does make me feel old!

Another lovely day spent in the garden, In the afternoon Ken Dunn came and brought with him his next book for publishing. More in the adventures of  Doodle and Scribble.

Tomorrows K5 hearing has been cancelled. I wonder why.

Ipek the dentist rang to see how my teeth were after yesterday and asked me to  go again on Saturday to see her technician. Something to look forward to!

News that there is a fire burning in Lapta.Senseless! Smoke everywhere.

The strike at Ercan, planned for tomorrow, has been postponed for 60 days.

I love the smell of jasmine flowering. I had some in the UK and Rhys always said it smelt like cat’s pee! What one person loves I guess…..

Anyone travelling in or out of Ercan on Thursday14th March, the Airport Traffic Controllers are threatening to hold a 24 hour strike.

So, back to the dentist in the morning. I won’t go into all the details, suffice to say I was in the chair for an hour and a half. Not quite as straight forward as she thought. Mal was almost at the point of coming in to see what had happened to me. I can’t say I enjoyed it but then I never do enjoy the dentists!

Just what I needed first thing on a Monday morning, a visit to the dentist! The crown Ipek fitted in November, wasn’t quite right and hot and cold sensitive. She ground it a little and put some stuff on my gums surrounding it. While I was there, I decided to sort out a new bridge where I have had a gap for quite a long while. I don’t enjoy the dentist but I have to say she is good or I wouldn’t be going back for the bridge! So I made an appointment for her to start the preparation work.

Four more supermarkets on the way back, no glace cherries! It did look promising in Tempo but the only had mixed peel. We saw some glace cherries on one of the cakes in Lemar and so Mal asked if they sold them. Three assistants later . something must have got lost in chinese whispers along the way and they presented us with a tin of cherry pie filling! I have now decided the cake is going to be minus cherries. Enough is enough. I’ll have to put them on my list of things to bring back next time I am in the UK.

The temperature looks promising for the rest of the week, in the 20’s and double figures overnight too. I also noticed they currently have snow in Margate!

In the evening we spoke to all the family in Cardiff. River has decided to come and visit us in the summer and is already getting excited about it. He will be 16 this week and so has decided to use his birthday money.
