Tuesday 23rd September 2025

As usual, we were up early and as rain had been threatened we headed for the beach. Paula and Gilly are never up early.

Ellie does like a roll on the sand.  It was so cold, we are not used to the cold! One of the council workers was on the beach and wanted to chat, so cold! So, on the way back I stopped at one of the charity shops and bought a hat! I just put it through the washing machine and tumble dried! At least it is very warm in the lodge.

Paula and Gilly came round ready for us to go for lunch, so we drove to The Pilot. Of course I had skate, delicious! Such big portions.

The fish was delicious but we all agreed the chips were a bit hard and as the owner came to collect the plates, she asked if everything was OK and we mentioned the chips. She did no more than gave us a round of drinks!!! You can’t complain about that!

We stayed for quite a long time, the girls loved the atmosphere in there.

Monday 22nd September 2025

We collected our things together and headed for Romney Marsh where we were  meeting Paula and Gilly. We had booked a lodge as usual.

We met the girls at The Ship Hotel and we all had lunch together. They do a really nice lunch there, three courses for £17. We were so full when we finished.

We then squashed in my car, Paula and Gilly had arrived by bus and train, with all the luggage and Ellie and went to Marlie. We dropped them off at their caravan first , they booked late and so there weren’t any lodges left.

We arrived at the lodge, not enough towels, no toilet rolls, no welcome pack!!  Also an ash tray full of cigarette butts on the terrace. They delivered the toilet rolls as soon as we phoned, we would sort the rest tomorrow!

A lazy night, the girls stayed in their caravan.

Saturday 20th September 2025

Oscar is home from the Navy for the weekend so we arranged to go to see him and Josie at home.  Oscar has three free passes to go home during the year and basically he can’t do any submarining until he is 18. BUT lots of training and exams.

We then left Ellie in their house and went for lunch in Spoons. It was much quieter than the last time we went there when it was full of noisy football supporters!

It was nice to catch up with the “kids” and hear what is happening in their lives.  Now they have moved further away, we don’t get to see them so much .And we told them we are beginning to be invisible grandparents!

They are having a “problem” in Faversham with flags appearing everywhere and “they”were supposed to be taking them down today. A lot of Police around!

Back home to watch the football. Spurs drew.

Then Strictly started, must be approaching Christmas!

Wednesday 17th September 2025

We took  Ellie to King George VI park and today she walked all the way round. She obviously enjoys walking a lot more now which is a very good thing.

I cooked a curry in the evening and Mal said he would prepare the rice. We have a Joseph Joseph Microwave rice cooker. When I went into the kitchen it was full of smoke and stinking. All the windows and doors flung open…….Mal had forgotten to add the water!!! That will teach him to do too much online at the same time. What was even more worrying was that the smoke alarm didn’t work.
