A walk across the fields with Ellie, just wat we needed some fresh air.

I started clearing up and doing things I should have done when we were first home! Getting there slowly.

Friday 23rd May 2025

My sister’s birthday and when I called her she told me a lot of people she knew had been abroad and come back with Covid. The fact she is coming to stay next week, I felt I had to go to the pharmacy and buy a Covid test. Yes, positive!!! I’m thinking I have had it for a few days.

Maybe half the hotel and plane had it! So many people coughing and spluttering.

We have now discovered there is a lot of it going around again.

Thursday 22nd May 2025

The journey continued, we collected my car and Ellie in Faversham and we continued on to home. We arrived at 2.30am! Some birthday presents and cards had been left in our store cupboard…thank you Mr Postman! A quick cuppa and bed. Sooo tired and feeling so ill.

We didn’t even manage to do all the unpacking. Mal did manage to rescue a lot of my garden by watering and then on to the allotment to soak.

Wednesday 21st May 2025

I still didn’t feel well, we had to pack and then went for a short walk and collected a couple of stones off the beach to paint for Torin.

Lunch with this view…..

We will miss it when we are at home and the sound of the waves at night but truly I just felt so ill I wanted to be home!

Our lift to the airport arrived in good time and we were so lucky to have a spare seat in our row which meant we could spread out.

Take off, right along the sea…………..

The journey was awful, I think the pressure in the cabin made me feel even worse. My eyes just streamed. I used all my tissues and had to grab hands full of towels from the loo! So many people on board had hacking coughs as well, not just me!

We landed on time but then we had the miles and miles of walking (Gatwick) just to get to passport control. Lou was waiting for us and to try and be fair, I opened my window wide so as not to pass my germs on to her as they are off to Spain in a few days. BUT I got really cold! It seemed every road on the way home was closed or an accident and Police . Nightmare.

Tuesday 20th May 2025

Our last full day. I woke up with a sore throat and coughing. I didn’t feel at all well but it was our last full day and we planned to go to Funchal in the afternoon. After lunch Mal said I was mad if I still wanted to go as I felt ill. I told him I would be OK, it was our last afternoon. We caught the hotel bus in. We watched the dancers for a short while and that was truly all I could manage, we stopped for a drink which I didn’t finish and decided to get a “bolt” back to the hotel. Maybe I wasn’t so wise as I felt awful.

It did amuse me the old lady sitting with the dancers, just doing her embroidery! Maybe her dancing days are over.

The hotel had a BBQ in the evening which I couldn’t eat, felt sick and our last night was very quiet and short. We ended up a short game of cards on our balcony.

Monday 19th May 2025

The day Paula and Gilly were going home so a quiet morning and they left their cases in our room until their lift arrived. They were both sad to leave and we will miss them, the couple of days we have left as they are good fun.

Mal started with a sore throat and the sniffles!!

I have to say what we love about this hotel is being right next to the sea, eating next to the sea and leaving our patio doors open at night and listening to the sound of the waves.

And of course the sunsets………………

Mal’s cold got worse and lots of other people in the hotel coughing!

Sunday 18th May 2025

My 75th birthday! A cup of tea and then opening all my birthday cards and presents. A lovely pearl bracelet from Lou and Rhys and a beautiful necklace from Mal. Breakfast and then Mal and I went for a walk along the seafront.

On the way back we met Paula and Gilly just starting their walk. Mal and I went back to the hotel as we needed a drink!

The four of us sat and had our lunch together outside but there was an invasion of loads of French, all quite rude, pushing you out of the way, even when I was trying to get a drink of water!

One of them even took Mal’s seat when he got up without even asking, literally just grabbed the chair! I think Gilly gave him what for! All I can say is none of the newcomers seemed to have any manners at all.

We decided to have an easy day for my birthday, Paula and Gilly had bought me a lovely necklace , a locket with the tree of  life, a silver bookmark and Noel Fitzpatrick’s new book and gave them to me lunchtime. A beautiful pearl bracelet from Lou and Rhys .

Gilly didn’t feel well in the afternoon and so went to bed and Mal developed a sore throat !

When we went back to the room, there was a birthday cake and a bottle of champagne and a note from the hotel. Paula came down and we sat on the balcony eating some!

But the food for my birthday dinner was so good, obviously buffet but I had loads of smoked salmon to start and then such delicious poached salmon and pasta in such a tasty sauce, I couldn’t have chosen better!! However Gilly was still in bed not well, so we had quite a quiet evening.

But such lovely sunsets to eat our dinner by.
