We went for our lunch at Wheeler’s Oyster Bar in  Whitstable. I bought Mal a voucher as part of his birthday present. Needless to say famous  for their oysters and shellfish. Ollie, our grandson is at catering college but also works here as chef for 4 days a week. The chef is teaching him so much, far more than college! He was shucking oysters at last summers oyster festival.

They have an amazing menu and it really is difficult to choose. But I started with scallops and as they had skate on the menu we both ordered that as I love skate. Ollie cooked our main course and came out to serve it to us. I have never tasted skate so good and not because I am biased.

Lunch out at Quex Barn and we managed to find my sisters birthday present at the Barn as well. It was rather huge but they helped us out finding boxes which would enable us to post it! And they gave us a lot of bubble wrap. They really are helpful at the garden centre (The Secret Garden Centre) there.

A consultant  from Kent and Canterbury Hospital called Mal and asked him to go for another ultrascan on Friday at 10am. He said he would book it and told Mal where to go.

Another slug patrol when it was dark. We found lots more and 5 snails!

Kearsney Abbey in the morning, a nice swim for Ellie. In the afternoon I did a lot of gardening , having bought 2 more acers for only £3.79 each in B&M!! I also bought some summer bedding. I have a lot of courgettes and tomatoes in the conservatory, so have planted a couple of those on, into pots, depending on the weather!!

About 10pm we went into the garden on “slug Patrol”, we found at least 30.

Friday 3rd May 2024

Time to pack up and go home. It was a bit drizzly so Mal walked Ellie while I packed. What a lovely place to stay.

The ducks were frequently outside our lodge and Ellie seemed to like them being there.

We were on the road by 10 am as we hadn’t realised when booking that it is a bank holiday weekend. As it was it was chaos on the A3, obviously getting worse as the day went on.  I usually stop half way but not today, I carried on to avoid any more hold ups.

The slugs/snails have been munching all over my two hostas in the garden while we have been away.

We watched the Luton Town game,  not a good result 1-1.

Thursday 2nd May 2024

About 2 am the storm started raging and it did sound a little as if you were in a tent!  It went on for a long time and we didn’t get too much sleep. Can’t complain we have had brilliant weather up until now.

Not such a sunny walk today but still we enjoyed it. I had to put Ellie on the lead now and again as we passed a lot of huge sandy puddles which she would have loved to have laid and rolled in!

We thought we would try to go for the 3 course lunch at the Duke of Cambridge, next door to the Lodge park. Mal decided if the same mains were crossed off the set menu today, he would complain. Yes, as we had gone in at 12, obviously they hadn’t sold out but all that was left was the veggie or steak, the same as the previous day. So, Mal told the waitress we would put on Trip Advisor not to go by the menu they have online as a lot is missing. She did no more than spoke to the Manager who said he would substitute the fish and the pork from the a la carte menu at no extra cost!! You can’t say fairer than that. So, we ended up with an expensive menu for the cost of their set menu! I have to say the food was delicious. We were slightly gob smacked that he made such a generous offer.

Our meal should have cost substantially more than we paid! The staff were really lovely and the food was so good! Lucky us.

The manager spoke to us as we left, making sure that we enjoyed the meal! A really nice man.

Another walk in the afternoon along another footpath and through woods. In the evening we watched the Spurs game…oh dear…again!
