It was cold and I had to defrost the car. I then went to Westwood to buy a load of potatoes for the allotment. I bought them in Wilko, they always seem good. A bit more shopping and then home.

I have organised this months Hatters lunch which is tomorrow. I have sorted out who is going and the pre orders. Yesterday one cancelled and today another cancelled, this is the way it goes!

Mal went to the allotment to do more pruning.

My volunteer day at the Cancer Research shop. Another quietish day but it is January. It started to get cold in the afternoon, customers were coming in to buy hats and gloves, so I put a lot more out on display.

Another beautiful sunny day and so we went to Kearsney. I think everyone decided the sun was out so they had to be outside. We sat having coffee outside the cafe in the sun and chatting to another couple who had a cocker spaniel. We spent much longer than intended there but we had nothing to dash back for! Of course Ellie was straight in the stream!

Watching the football in the afternoon. I think a foregone conclusion, we lost to Arsenal!

I ordered a new camera and I had notification it was to be delivered between 9 and 12 and needed to be signed for. So we were out early in the pouring rain.  The things we do for our dogs!

Later we had a meet and greet with Chester a miniature schnauzer who wants to come for a holiday staying with us in July. Ellie went crazy and started running round and round with him!

Hammers lost their game in the afternoon. Oh dear.

The sun was out so we took Ellie to Minnis Bay. We had a new microwave delivered and so booked a slot at the ‘dump’ to drop the old one off on the way. Yes, you still have to book here which is hideous as there was only one other car there but that is Dover District Council for you!

On to Minnis Bay and the sun was out but it was very cold and windy.

I heard from David and Kenny, they had a dog Nico, a stray they took in a while ago. Sadly Nico jumped their 6 foot fence , ran to the main road and was run over and died. How awful. They say they won’t be getting another dog.

Mal barrowed more chippings on to our allotments. Others don’t seem to be using them, so Mal is making the most of the pile that is there. He brought leeks and kale back for dinner.

I went shopping to find a particular birthday present. So far two places I have tried have shut their doors until February. I tried a third this morning, no luck.  I did find a couple of bits of clothing for our holiday, so didn’t come home empty handed, oh and 4 bags of compost! I managed to find some that wasn’t peat free. We used peat free last year and it was awful.

Mal was over at the Jubilee centre with the people for the food pantry, hoping that they will return. So far the boxing club are using it but there are a lot of rooms that can be rented out and two kitchens. It’s so sad that is has been shut so long and Dover county council wanted it permanently closed down.  It should be for the use of the community. At least Mal and the other trustees have succeeded at long last.

After lunch I went back over with him, firstly dropping the compost off at the allotment.

It doesn’t look too brilliant from the front but hopefully enough money can be made to keep it going. There is also a huge garden at the back and  a room with a stage.

It is nice to know a success story with so much doom and gloom around. Of course now it has to be marketed and volunteers found.
