Mal took Ellie out as it was my Demelza day. I drove to Wingham and then caught the bus from there. It does come from Sandwich but a lot earlier so I wouldn’t be able to use my bus pass. It may be easier to pay, I will have to find out.

Jack was on holiday and so Lauren was in. It was a funny morning. The batteries ran out in the safe last week and a volunteer ended up putting the over ride key into the safe and shut it!!  Then there was a problem with the batteries! Lauren contacted a locksmith who wanted to charge £60 for drilling the lock. Lauren decided she could damage it just as well for free. A chisel and a hammer and a bit of brute force!! I think Lauren enjoyed it! Finally a locksmith offered his services for nothing! Of course the safe now needs replacing! 

Poor Linda is now using a stick as she is waiting for a hip operation.

We took Ellie for a walk and a ball play. We explored more of Sandwich’s footpaths.

We met Lou, Rhys, Tariq and the littlies for lunch at The Crispin. It was Rhys’s choice for his birthday, as he loves their Caribbean food, they even do a Caribbean Sunday roast . The kids love the burgers they do there and the rest of us enjoy the Caribbean food.

After the pub we came to our house for birthday cake.

Lou and Rhys came over with the littlies and Rhys put up another couple of curtain poles but he has a cold and wasn’t feeling well at all so said he would come back next week and do some more. Nothing is urgent now. We are in and will do it all bit by bit. 

In the afternoon we took Ellie for a walk around the town. It is lovely to have shops/pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance.

Later in the evening we walked back to the Mermaids Locker with Ellie, it is a micropub.  Lucky girl was even given a dog biscuit. She just lies on the floor and is never a problem.

We chatted to the landlord who was really nice. They have about 20 gins. I tried the raspberry and then the rhubarb but he recommended Brockmans I’ll have to try that one next time as we then went across the road to Ossie’s to buy fish and chips. We have to try out all the places in Sandwich. Fish and chips won’t be a regular thing as lovely as they were, no good for the waist line! I have a feeling that Ossie’s is something to do with Cyprus Teresa as I know she used to live in Sandwich.

A lovely evening, Ellie enjoys being out with us too. I think all the 11 pubs in Sandwich are dog friendly.

A morning of emptying boxes and finding places for things. Midday we went back to the Preston house to meet the letting agent for our exit inspection. He hardly looked at the place, he could see immediately that it was cleaner than when we moved in!! Lou helped me so much doing the final clean and Tariq cleaned the carpets thoroughly.

There was a load of rubbish there that we left in the bins but he said nothing. I also dumped my Dyson there as that died and I have a Henry in Sandwich. We are still debating what vacuum to buy to collect Ellie’s non stop dog hair moult. We have tried all sorts, even the ones that claim to be special “pet hair” cleaners and the trouble is once you have bought them, too late if they are not that good.We need one on a few days trial but have yet to find that. It’s the same as a new bed, we haven’t replaced that yet as it got all too confusing. There are mattresses you can have on trial and they take yours away free of charge but if you don’t like it your old mattress has gone! Dumps now charge if you take them there. No wonder so many are dumped by the roadside! 

After the inspection we went into Canterbury looking for furniture but couldn’t find what we wanted and possibly too tired to really bother! Back home and it was such a lovely sunny day we had lunch in the garden and then I planted the plants Rhys and Lou bought me and sorted out some garden solar lights, only to find one of the strings has split.  

We gave Lou and Rhys our huge gazebo that we bought last summer as their garden is bigger than ours. They put it up in the morning and evidently the kids played in it all day!!

Another busy day. Lou and I went over to Preston house to clean it all ready for the inspection. Tariq had really cleaned the carpets well. They are now cleaner than when we moved in!!! In fact I think after Lou and I spending time there, the whole house was! By this time I was exhausted and Lou wasn’t feeling well so we went back. Lou and Rhys did more dump runs, part of the damaged decking. Rhys had been sorting out the garden and bought me a lavender plant and a strawberry plant. He had replaced some of the damaged decking, tidied it all up and put new batons up in the living room for curtains. He came back from one of the dump runs with a bottle of pink fizz and told me to stop and relax and he would be back Friday and to list all the jobs for him! I think I needed to stop too! Lou and Rhys have been so very good helping us so much. I don’t Know what we would have done without them and of course their boys.

Oh, meanwhile today, Grandad took the three littlies to the park with Ellie AND they had ice creams! Feeling his age???!

Moving day!!

Rhys hired a van and enlisted the help of Tariq and Sol. What a busy day we had. It is only months since we cleared the Cyprus house and at one stage during the day Mal suggested we took a short cut straight to the old people’s home! We have so much “stuff”, a lot of Torin’s things and also the boxes brought back from Cyprus which we hadn’t bothered opening.  It’s a good thing we have a lot of storage space in the new house But we will have to sort it gradually, box by box, when we have some energy back.

I really don’t know what we’d have done without the boys. Tariq was left in the old house carpet cleaning. Rhys told him it had to be spotless just like when he is cleaning the floors with a toothbrush at work! Meanwhile Sol put up a huge new shelving unit in the utility room and put the really difficult bed together. Rhys returned the van and then put up a blind in the kitchen and curtain poles in the bedrooms.

I can’t believe quite how much was achieved in one day!
