We took Ellie to the mountains and she was so excited to meet up with David and Jekka. I think sometimes she gets confused who she belongs to, David having her holiday home!

Gardening in the morning after our walk and then a nice cool down in the pool in the afternoon.

We were trying to think of somewhere different to eat and decided on Veni Vici in Lapta. We then discovered that they have an “earlybird” menu which we were just in time for (5 – 7pm). They offer 2 courses for 25tl. Coincidently we both ordered the same dishes, seafood pancake followed by loin of pork and we were both really surprised at the good quality and also how tasty they were. The beer, Efes was 5tl. A good choice and I am sure we will be going again. The only down side is that you are only the pavement away from the main Lapta road.

Mal’s ball throwing skills have deteriorated, the ball ended up down a huge dip amongst all the thorns and Ellie came out covered in prickles!

Ken (Dunn) came round in the afternoon for a visit. He is busy illustrating his new books.

This morning I tried taking my old camera (Lumix) . The problem is I have a ‘splodge’ on photos taken with this camera. The Canon is more difficult to take photos of the sun or should I say takes longer for me to change the setting without glasses on! But the Canon has 20x Optical zoom.  I really need a cross between the two of them. The Lumix is lighter and easier to carry everywhere but there are far more features on the Canon. Also the Lumix has a Leica lens. Well, a couple of the Lumix photos……

Happy Birthday to Ringo who is 74 today!

Mal and I went shopping. Tomatoes are now 80 kurus a kilo, that’s about 22p and aubergine 1.50tl (41p) a kilo and courgettes 1.50tl a kilo. I feel some ratatouille coming on!! If it’s cooked well with herbs, it is nice to have with salad. I am growing some basil but it is not ready yet. Also 4x500ml bottles of Efes are only 10.90tl at Lemar Alsancak, that’s the cheapest we have found.

A walk by the sea first thing.

We were walking up the road at 5.15 and David stopped in his jeep as he was taking Jekka up to the mountains, so he gave us a lift and we walked together. Ellie loved it being with Jekka, she just wasn’t sure whether she should be listening to me or David (her second home!) When we reached the top of the mountain, we just stood there taking in another amazing sun rise!

So many plants are dying off but everywhere Heliotrope is sprouting up. It obviously doesn’t need water, or at least very little.

At 10.15am Ziggy phoned to tell us the car was ready!! Yes, we were surprised. A replacement gear box, clutch, one front bearing and one bearing at the back. The total cost 1700tl at today’s rate £465. David ran us down there to collect it. Back on the road again!!

Swimming in the pool and then I made a huge jug of Pimms, delicious. It is much nicer with frozen raspberries added and then you don’t get water from ice cubes!

5am up and out again!

 

We actually had some water in during the night.It’s Lou and Rhys’s 4th wedding anniversary today. Goodness only knows where those 4 years went.

I drove my car down to the garage. It was making a noise in 5th gear, half way down, the gear box/clutch seized up! I’m not quite sure how I managed to get it in the garage, even crossing a main road. Thankfully there was no other traffic around. Oh well, Ziggy has quite a bit of work to do on it now!! David gave us a lift back home.

We spent a lot of time in the pool in the afternoon. Ellie no longer barks at the Lilo! It was very warm and so there was nothing else for it…………………

In the evening I actually got around to watching the last episode of “I bought a Rain Forest.” A better ending than I thought. We don’t seem to watch much TV at all in the summer.

Back into the routine, we were up at 5 walking Ellie, before it became too hot.

Then of course we had all the work to sort out. It looks as though we have had no water all the time I have been away. No water but the hedges etc have really grown, so will all have to be cut. The bougainvillea is also hanging too low down the drive.

We took the car down to Ziggy at the garage as it has started making a clonking sound. He put it on the ramp and the bearings at the front need replacing. We have to take it back tomorrow. There was also a smell of petrol and one of the pipes had perished, so he did that straight away.

A lovely swim in the afternoon and actually managed to swim and also get on the  Lilo without Ellie barking and going crazy. To be honest I think she was just too hot! The pool was 32 degrees! I have handed over pool cleaning to Mal!
