Home in Malatya for Sale

We went to Lambousa Market early to buy some things and then on to Ileli. We also bought a replacement outside chair as another has gone brittle in the sun and broken. Cyprus Today.

We spent a lot of time in the pool in the afternoon, a lovely view from the pool!

Football later on and Hammers only managed a draw.

Mal and I were talking about River going to Grammar school and reminiscing on our grammar school days. I remember you were given a detention if you were seen out of school without your boater on in the summer or your purple beret in the winter or you were ever seen not giving up your seat on a bus if an older person was standing etc etc. Then I said I remember if for some reason we didn’t have to wear school uniform we were told to come in “mufti”. Mal was in hysterics saying it was from the forces days and in theory meant you could wear dressing gowns and tasseled caps! Things have certainly changed since our days, I am sounding old now!

I only ever had one detention whilst I was there and remember it well. I was in a top floor classroom and someone was threatening to tell a certain boy (you know who you are!) that I fancied him. I asked them not to but if they did I said I would throw their books out of the window, they started to go and so I did! It was really unfortunate that the Geography mistress was walking underneath at the time!

Yes, I was in this photo, way back when and the summer dresses? Purple and white stripe..yuk!

The lira is presently 3.10 to the pound, a 40% devaluation against the pound in a year. Good news for us!

We now have some quince on our tree but we are still looking for a runcible spoon to eat them with!

Do you know where Cyprus is? Interesting.

What a day, River received his results and then had to go into Canterbury to see if they would have him in the Grammar school (they didn’t have Grammar system in Cardiff), well of course they wanted him. I don’t think anyone is bothered that he got a “B” in Welsh, not now he is living in Kent! Well done River PLUS Sol took science a year early and he received an “A”. Well done Sol. We are so proud of them both. We spent a lot of time on the phone to them. They are both very happy boys.

We went to Ileli, shopping and water refills, we seem to be getting through gallons at the moment. Also Cyprus Today.

House for Sale – before I receive a lot of emails asking if we are leaving the island – the answer is no. Because of family circumstances, we are spending more time in the UK than North Cyprus. We are therefore reversing the situation whereby we have a larger place in the UK and a smaller place in North Cyprus.

I took the thought for today from the Kiva website. I make micro loans with them. You loan $25 and the money is repaid to you at the end of the term. I just keep reloaning to give those across the world a hand up not a hand out. You can just loan $25 and then have your money back if you want to. If you do want to see here. It will help to change so many people’s lives. “Just a little bit of good”.

Margaretha came round in the morning. A good thing I had baked a cake!

In the evening we went to Blue Song for our dinner. It is just a cafe by the sea, nothing special but a good place to sit and watch the sunset! Efes is 4tl!

We went to take the car to Ziggy for a pre MOT check. He screwed the bumper back on a bit tighter and cleaned the engine so they could check the number and then told us that the Police testing centre now have a new toy/piece of equipment and they are failing everyone on brakes/hand brake/balancing. He suggested that we had the emissions test and then took it to be MOT’d, see what they threw up. So down to Mert Garaj for the emissions test, it wasn’t right, so he adjusted it free of charge! 24.50tl for the emissions test. Next to the tax office to pay for the MOT, 124tl. We then took our receipt to the Police MOT place.  Very impressive their new piece of equipment. We waited while the fella before us was arguing with the policeman about the test paper from the new machine, obviously his had failed as well.

My turn, I drove the car towards the equipment and he told me to stop. Told me to turn the front lights on, yes, they all worked. He didn’t check the back ones! He then tried the hand brake, checked the engine number, walked round the car and told Mal there was a “problem” with a bit of rust at the rear. Mal denied the car was anything to do with him, said it was mine!!! So I told him Ziggy had checked the car this morning. With that he went into the office and wrote out my three year certificate!

We jumped in the car and sped away in case he changed his mind. Mal put 1,000tl aside thinking we would need work doing on it. I guess it pays to have it serviced regularly at Ziggys. These Renault 9’s just keep on going. It is now 19 years old.

Incidentally, for anyone who is taking their car, unlike the last test I had three years ago, when the most important things seemed to be two rear mud guards, a first aid box,  red triangle and a torch, none of these things were checked!

Today should have been the start of the hunting season (small animals). Thankfully it has been postponed until 1st September.

In the afternoon we sat outside and watched the football. Far too hot to watch it indoors! A good result for Spurs in spite of having no Bale!
