Bargains – 20% off Men’s suits at M & S. Books, school stationery and much more at The Works – free postage code. Also free postage from Debenhams – I tried this one and it works for sale goods as well! Lots today, here is one for tennis fans, the ATP Semi final.

Mal and I lopped a load of overgrown branches in the garden, well, he lopped and I removed them all! I just don’t seem to have the strength to use the loppers through really thick branches. We now have another part of the garden where we don’t get our eyes poked out! We also sorted the jasmine arches out, whilst we were away, they decided to trail all over the place. After all that work, into the pool. I am still amazed at the views we have, especially swimming in the pool.

In the evening we went to Hillside for fish and chips. Last week Robin mentioned the reduced size of the fish and it was noticeable again this time. AND we didn’t get any mushy peas, diners after us did!

The view while we swim!

Bargains – RADLEY HALF PRICE Travel card holder  and 70% off Rock and Swivel armchair.

The Asil Nadir trial continues. This paragraph in the article makes interesting reading –

“Ersin Tatar, a fellow Turkish Cypriot who had been Polly Peck’s assistant treasurer, is now finance minister in northern Cyprus. He has never been charged with an offence but was named by the SFO during the trial among a list of Nadir’s main helpers.”

It does make you think that any other country, a Finance Minister would be “suspended” from the post. The plot thickens. It seems I am not the only one who thinks that way.

It was noticeable that nothing appeared in Cyprus Today this Wednesday – a newspaper owned by Asil Nadir.

So, GCSE results day and the press are reporting “Controversy over tougher GCSE Standards”. Perhaps this NCFP article will enlighten people of the process that is followed.

Talking of which, River came on the webcam – 4 A*’s,and 3 A’s. I won’t mention the C for Welsh…ha ha!! Looks as though he actually listened to Grandad and his web cam tuition! We are very proud of him, Grandad may have helped but at the end of the day, he put the work in. Well done River.

UPDATE ON ASIL NADIR – jailed for 10 years! NCFP article

We often sit and look at the sea from our terrace, some amazing shades of blue.

Shades of blue in the Med.

Another North Cyprus Bargain at the Ship Hotel. Prices are at last getting cheaper! Bargain- 50% off at M & S

We popped round to deliver some things to Ingrid and then went to get some shopping. After three days holiday, the fruit and vegetables looked decidedly tired and I had to laugh that some of the yoghurts were well past their sell by dates. Short changed in Starlings and when I ased for my change, she made out she had none! A sure sign it is tourist time again. I think I’ll stick to Atakara for a while where I always get my change and the receipt and their bread is good, being baked on the premises! Cherries are now down to 7.90tl a kilo and we eat so many!

All the “news” from Cyprus Today and the latest news about Asil Nadir. It does make me wonder why he returned to the UK voluntarily??

Along with the other wild life in the house, there seem to be a lot of praying mantis around. I just think they are so comical the way they turn their heads to look at you.

Bargain – 25% off at BHS

Weatherwise a lovely day, a gentle breeze and low humidity. But the pool is 32 degrees, a little like a bath, not cool!

The last day of Bayram and we have had three very quiet days, very little traffic, not that we get much up here anyway but it has been so peaceful.

Something has obviously happened at the Russian house as her dog is no longer constantly barking. I think she must keep it indoors now. I guess someone must have complained while we were away.

32 degrees is not cool!

Bargain – If anyone is thinking about Christmas – an away break

Margaretha came round in the morning. A good deal, she gets her website sorted and in exchange she gets us pork chops! 10 kilos in fact!!

The latest on Asil Nadir’s trial. And more here.

In the evening we watched the Man U game and watched Everton beat them.

It looks as though we have someone who has made himself at home. As long as he keeps the snakes and tree rats away, I am quite happy for him to join us!

Sunday 19th August 2012

Bargains – British Airways holiday and flight sale  and Foodies Festival discount code.

Mutlu Bayramlar to everyone. Don’t forget public offices and banks will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

Not that we do but if you have a Sunday morning lie in, I hope you made the most of it this morning because next Sunday is the start of the hunting season. We all the know that guns will be going off so early in the morning, in my experience before it is even light enough to see what they are shooting!

We had a very lazy day, in the pool, playing cards and watching the football in the afternoon. It was so quiet. Lovely!

Saturday 18th August 2012

Bargains- 10p Wrigley’s Chewing gum! Also lightweight suitcase.

We had to go into Girne. On the way back we decided to get some shopping in Ileli. I ended up spending over 168tl and then got short changed!! I guess someone has to contribute to their new shop next door but I wasn’t impressed where other supermarkets often add an extra item into your shopping for spending over 100tl.

For anyone who may be interested, there is now a Russian supermarket between Ileli and the water shop. We were going in but it was shut. It’s called Colibri supermarket.

Mal managed to break off the pressure gauge on the top of the swimming pool filter, or I should say “it just came off in his hand”, so we also had to go to Siba to get a replacement and the plastic piece it fits in. A total of 152 tl. Well, I suppose it has lasted 9 years.

We then watched the West Brom v Liverpool game…..West Brom won 3-0! Unfortunately Spurs lost, something to do with a Chelsea reject perhaps? Bring back ‘Arry!
