17th August 2009

Mal and I have been invited to a wedding in the South later on in the year, so we planned our trip and booked our hotel. Hopefully the hotel is relatively near to the town hall and reception.

Hot again so swimming in the pool after Rosie’s walk. In the afternoon we watched the Man U game where they achieved their three points but not outstanding. I have to say the next game was much better with Spurs beating Liverpool. Maybe Spurs are a force to be reckoned with under “’Arry”. Good luck to them. We rang all the boys in Cardiff and they are all delighted they will be having a sister.

There have been plenty of additions to the Cyprus 44 bulletin board concerning Gez, the hairdresser, even one of the threads being closed down but several others starting. There have even been suggestions of discrimination.

Mal and I went to Lambousa market in the morning but we didn’t stay long as it was so hot and also a lack of stalls, obviously because of the heat.

I rang my hairdresser Gez later in the day to make an appointment. He is an excellent hairdresser and I have recommended him to other people. I discovered that the police had arrested and imprisoned him yesterday because of complaints from other hairdressers that he was running his business illegally. Members of Cyprus44 forum, including Anita his mother, have been commenting on the fact that the cell he has been confined in is apparently horrific, lacking even basic amenities, and that he has allegedly not been charged and has been denied contact with family and legal representation.  Members of that board are even suggesting that people should boycott the two hairdressers who had allegedly reported Gez because of his incomplete paperwork. Another afternoon in the pool apart from watching a very lucky Chelsea win 2-1 against Hull.

13th August 2009

We were awake at 5.30am, well, I was which meant Mal was woken up, so a walk in the mountains as the sun rose. We walked past a new building just past the Muhtar’s café which we have heard maybe a restaurant. I cleaned all the floors when we got back home.

Great excitement in the afternoon, thunder started rumbling around the mountains and black clouds appeared, surely not rain in August….yes, it was and for about 40 minutes. It was lovely and Rosie thought it was great just walking around in it. It really cooled off and was much needed and very unusual for August. We were so excited that we forgot we had all the doors and windows open all round the house. So much for cleaning all the floors, water had come in everywhere and a very wet dog running in and out, she thought it was great fun.

The other good news of the day was a phone call from Rhys and number 7 grandchild in their family, after 6 boys is going to be a GIRL! Lou had a scan today and thankfully all is well. Her arrival will be the end of December. Mal made a jug of Pimms to celebrate!

12th August 2009

Mal and I did some jobs in the morning. David called over to take some photos of their house with their new drive. Mal and I played cards most of the afternoon.

In the evening I went to girlie Pizza night. Pizza King was really busy and there were a lot of us and so Margaretta, her sister and family had to sit at another table.

We have been reading all about the meteorite showers starting tonight and it is great here without any light pollution. So, what happened this morning? Yes, they came to put street lighting in, which incidentally none of us want. We were quite happy to pay for it without actually having any. They certainly chose the wrong time.
